I've just rebuilt my front propshaft, including center bearing in hookes joint, now I'm getting vibration above 50 and shaking above 69.99999(!).

I am due to rebuild the rear shaft (and replace the 'weak link' rubber joint) next.

Does anyone know where I can get the shafts balanced in Hampshire or south coast? I am in Gosport.

Thanks

Tom V

Hi Tom, it would be unusual to need to rebalance the props after a rebuild unless something is not right.

Reserve judgement until you've replaced the rubber doughnut, imo.

I've used heavy duty uj's which have grease nipples (hookes end) the original didn't, could two grease nipples cause an imbalance?

And no, I haven't done it wrong, I was meticulous! ;-)

simple answer is no

in all the years ive had landys and have put new ujs on ive never come accross the fact that the props need balancing,if they didnt need balancing before u put new ujs on then law of averages says u done summit wrong

Hi James, how do you mean? I marked the position of the shaft on the car with a file before removal, and marked each yoke relative position before taking apart. I've rebuilt shafts before but have always replaced like for like uj's, not heavy duty or with addition of grease nipples. The vibration was only minor on my 70 mile journey today so I will get wheels balanced first as I've had balance weights fall off them before! It might just have happened coincidentally.
