if yer dint know the head bolt order, you can start in the middle and work out to the ends in a spiral pattern. but am sure yer gort yer big book of landies there
 
will do. Am hoping to be finished by tomorrow afternoon too. Did it take you longer to put it back together than it did to take it apart?
 
quicker cos u know where it all goes got me pistons at half 12, and was torqueing the head down by about half 4. Just got the tappets and the other bits to put back tommorow. The sump went back easier than i thought as well just rested it on one arm and got 2 bolts in to hold it. Hardest thing now is turning the engine to do the tappets cos the rings are nice and tight.
 
All finished and running well (it would seem)!

I've only taken one picture because the thought of stopping at each stage in the process, degreasing and then starting up again was too much (I've only a short fuse :rolleyes: )

I did almost poo myself earlier the first time I started her up. I had to use the battery pack jump lead kit because I've managed to drain my battery listening to the radio and powering a 12V strip light through the night and such. Plugged her in, checked that everything was set to go, primed the fuel pump etc. etc., turned over fine but made a horrible spitting noise. "****", I said to myself quite delightfully, "I hope that's a not a ring that's snapped in the cylinder, or the head gasket that's buggered". T'was just my exhaust manifold and thus us now sorted.

Only problem that I've got now is the rubber pipe between the coolan block on the head and the water pump body. I forgot to put it back midway so have had to cut it down to size to fit after the head was onboard. I've gone and cut it too short, so need a bit of nice flexi hose that I can cut up for that with some new jubilee clips.

Other than that, all seems fine. It starts up well, isn't blowing a single thing out of the oil filler cap (even with my hand fully over it :D ) and it sounds sweet as a nut.

One thing that did worry me slightly was the fact that when the pistons were up towards the top of the cylinder (with the head off) I could if I tried hard enough, get them to rock from side to side very slightly within the cylinder walls. Is this usual or will they wear in?
