Has anybody renewed their insurance recently?
Ours is up for renewal early January. We paid a shade over £300 last year but they are quoting £600+ and we haven't had any claims!
We are a married couple, mid 40's, rural area with a Disco 2 V8 auto 2001 plate and good driving record. Web comparison sites quote £470.
Does anyone know of a company worth trying please?
Thanks in advance

they always do that just go compare or money supermarket etc etc and get a better quote. if they won't match it take ya business elsewhere. I change mine every year. this years is co-op lasgt year was swinton and year before was post office. I paid average of £130 for all 3 but renewal quote off last 2 was over £450.

Renewal from Admiral came through a few months ago, £900 with £500 excess. over twice last years premium.
Went with Lancaster in the end, same cover as Admiral plus green lane cover, £220 FC with 50 quid excess.

Chris.

Cheers Chris I'll have a look at Lancaster. Mine isn't as modded as yours and its our main car but should be more reasonable than my current robber!

I never know why insurance companies do this, first year reasonable, next year great big increase. I never renew my insurance without spending at least half an hour on internet and checking around to get the best price.I am over 60 so you would expect someone like SAGA to come up with a reasonable price, guess what, the most expensive quote of all.

This is because you drive the wrong way down the M1 in your pyjamas drunk.

Definately try Lancaster, they were the cheapest by far for us this year and we got greenlane cover including for nowt extra. I'm sure it'll be different this year when I try and renew though.

I just renewed a mates business insurance for his van (painter& decorator) he was getting qoutes of £365 - £450, half an hour on the net and we got it down to £165 fully comp. I still don't understand how they vary so much.

Here's proof that you can never ask for recommendations for insurance companies. I have 9 years full no claims, a clean licence, I'm the only driver aged 42 and currently pay just under £300 with Swift for my 94 300tdi fully comp with protected no claims.

I just got a quote of Lancaster for comparison and with no mods a value of £1000 and a £200 excess they quoted me £ 1541.23  Proof if ever it were needed to shop around. :D

I am dumfounded as to how they quote these prices:confused:, I think they must have a random number generator and it's luck of the draw.

Dont get me started on insurance! At the moment i pay £603 fully comp for 94 disco (which i dont think is that bad as im only 21), i was looking around for my renewal and M&S wanted £3100!!! They said that they offer a lock smith service and i dont have that with the company im with now, so i told them i could buy another disco for that price if i lock my keys in! lol.

with ref to Black Vulcan have just changed to SAGA as the best quote. My last company, Equity Red Star upped their renewal by 110% and I then tried only 2-3 companies.
Peter Best £549. NFU £ 446 SAGA £266. Took that rather than keep going.

1996 300Tdi auto(jap reimport) in standard trim, no fancy mods.

Jim Anderson

Just paid £166 with Sureterm Direct for my 1997 300tdi auto no mods for me and her indoors. We both have other vehicles so I don't know how much difference that makes.

Thanks for the input. Looks like I'm in for a few hours crawling the net and making hours of phone calls answering the same questions repeatedly instead of playing out in the snow.

They presume people are too lazy to shop around and accept what they offer, new customers are always more important to them. I've found that gocompare give the wife and I the cheapest quotes ... and remember ... a husband and wife on the same policy knocks off quite a bit of money.
