The huge price increase waqs the reason i sold my 94 TDi a few months ago.
It went from £150 Full comp on a classic policy to £490 on a std policy.
The reason was that they had stopped doing classics that where under 20 years old.
So i now have a 1990 V8 on gas and £180 Full comp.........

Hi, Bought an old 1995 a month ago Disco 1 300tdi , no no-claims. went with NFU (Natioinal Farmers union). They gave me 5 years NCB straight off the top.
Named two drivers clean record, only std alarm/imobiliser, road parked. Hertfordshire £295. worth a quote.
Good luck
Tinhat

Its a bit of a lottery I think, I'm with Swift this year as they came out cheaper, one trick I always use, is when they ask whats the best quote you've had so far, I always knock £50.00 off the best, they usually try to beat. Go Compare seems pretty good and some of the results often make me laugh, Company X quotes £285.00 and company Z quotes £3650.00, I swear they just make it up!

Here's proof that you can never ask for recommendations for insurance companies. I have 9 years full no claims, a clean licence, I'm the only driver aged 42 and currently pay just under £300 with Swift for my 94 300tdi fully comp with protected no claims.

I just got a quote of Lancaster for comparison and with no mods a value of £1000 and a £200 excess they quoted me £ 1541.23  Proof if ever it were needed to shop around. :D

hilarious.. Lancaster just quoted me £1400!! wtf??

Might be worth trying Adrian Flux. I got a good quote on my old Rangie and ford fester. They gave me full no claims on both cars. I am with Saga until May but I think I will be looking around then. My bank tells me Saga have been taken over and their premiums are set to be hiked.

My AA insurance renewal came in at £619.10 (it was £450 last year...) I've shopped around on the meercats and came up with a quote of £387. Changing insurance company yet again to Swinton

I renewed mine not long ago - with sureteam direct via a comparrison site, limited milage as I dont use mine much 5000 miles a year, £204 fully comp !

I got a quote from Lancaster on Friday of £1103 :O
they have just rung me and can now do fully comp with off road/green lane for £365
how the hell do they do that ??

it's called bluffing and the feel good factor. they know you iont gonna pay £1100 (if you do they've scored lucky) but when they offer you a policy for £365. Your first thought is gonna be "bloody hell that's cheap"

I'd turn down the 2nd offer just on principal, chancing bastids:rolleyes:.

The fact is they is all robbing bastids, who will take every penny they possibly can from you for 'cover', and then do everything they can to pay out as little as possible should you need to use that 'cover'.

Premiums will always rise once you get down from the initial 'punishment zone' of young drivers. There is always a reason. This years (and last years probably) is poor weather and increased claims, before that would probably have been flooding and increased claims, before that i dunno, probably terrorism or something!

The No-Win No-Fee bastids also share some of the blame, cos every claim they make gets added to the overall premiums that the rest of us pay.

It's no wonder people decide not to bother insuring, it really does look cheaper to pay a fine if you are unlucky enough to get caught.
