Biodiesel in my td6

Just thought I'd chip in

I'm currently running 80% Bio 20% Dino Diesel

No problems to report - next month I will be switching to 100% Bio

Anyone else wanting to do this I'd say go for it! but!! Make your own!! That way you know it's been made correct and more importantly washed properly and not still full of catalyst. Also buy some fuel filters! The first few hundred miles you will be changing these quite often as they clog up with gunk that the bio diesel strips off your fuel tank. Once you are through the mixing stage and are running on 100% Bio you will have no problems and the odd time you have to throw in some Dino diesel because you went out on Sat night and was too hung over to be bother making a batch – or you went too far from home without enough juice!

I used pure biodiesel in my old TD6 and it was fine.

Although you do need to keep an eye on the rubber pipes (like injector return pipes) as the ethanol will eat them eventually as I had the same issue with my 300tdi with fuel leaking from the return pipes.

Happily I sold the TD6 before any issues occurred.

Good to hear others running a td6 (or anything) with no problems. The motto really is to make your own, then you can test the quality. Never had a problem with the defender, and know plenty of people running common rail engines on it.
Got the spare filters ready!

Funkykipper, do you use bio in your RR, is that a TDV8?

Unfortunately her indoors won't let me put bio in this one as it is still under warranty and yes it is a tdv8.

Also due to the lack of supply of quality bio in Nuneaton I am currently using neat sunflower oil mixed with diesel in my 300 tdi which works out at a smidge over £1.10 per litre.

Right, That's it! I'm selling my 4.4 V8 Petrol and getting the TD6. Biodiesel has to be the way forward.

well not quite!

It soaks up a lot of time, and set up can be cash hungry to get set up - some would say it's worth paying the extra at the regular pump?

However…..

I have 2 set ups I have 1 for Black Diesel, I run my heating system on this, and I used it in my old Peugeot Diesel with no problems, you run Black diesel with 50/50 mix with regular Dino Diesel. and you also need to tell Mr Government as you have to pay Tax on Black Diesel (still cheaper than 100% red diesel) just extra paperwork ;-)

and I have my Bio set up - this has 2 header tanks 1 for fresh unused oil from the wholesalers and the other for the free used stuff that will need the sediments filtering out of it. Remember 2500 litres a year before you have to start paying tax ;-) and I will advise you to keep records!

but having said that, and making it sound a chore - it's quick simple and once you have done a few batches you'll get the hang of it and it will become part of your weekly routine - although expect neighbors to start asking why you fill up on your drive every Sunday?

the waste product is none toxic from Bio diesel and I throw all the Glycerine in the compost pile with all the poop from my chickens and pigs, you could make soap if you fancy pretending to be Tyler for a day? Or something I’ve been thinking about is compressing it into solid bars to take camping – they burn forever!! The water from washing bio diesel isn’t toxic either and is safe to go down the drain or on your lawn.

You are not the clothes you wear,
You are not the car you drive,
You are not you're f*cking khakis,
You are made from the same decaying matter as everything else,
Until you know this you are useless....

F*ck off with your sofa units and strine green stripe patterns, I say never be complete, I say stop being perfect, I say let... lets evolve, let the chips fall where they may

I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy **** we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very ****ed off.
