Sixteen years ago I was in a pub with a mate who ran a 2 1/2 year old Disco 2 V8 ES and wanted a new BMW X5 and was moaning about the trade in he was being offered on the Disco. So I offered to buy it cash at the trade in figure thinking I'll run it for a month or 2 and sell it and make a few quid. The wife went berserk when I told her I'd bought her a new car and when I told her it was an automatic it was nearly divorce proceedings as she had never had an auto, 'and how am I supposed to park that bloody thing' was an often heard phrase in our household until it arrived. 6 years later with many fantastic family holidays all over Europe and the UK we decided to say goodbye as the fuel bills were beginning to hurt (a lot) and bought.. a.. Renault Espace! Quite what in Gods name made me decide to do that but a year later I had the Land Rover itch again and we had our first Range Rover an early 03 TD6 L322 and despite it having to have a new autobox and torque convertor we had another fantastic 5 years with the car, then with engine problems looming (That TD6 is a nasty engine) it was time for something sensible again so px for a Volkswagen Tourag (seriously great car) but even then the green oval was seducing me and forcing me to spend nights on ebay and autotrader to satisfy my need for more Solihull metal. It was no good and in June 2016 we became the proud owners of a 2007 facelifted 4.2 supercharged Vogue SE, now we were really addicted and on the hard stuff now, had the motor remapped to 450bhp and needed more green oval, bought a neglected TD4 freelander as a project, fixed it and wanted to keep it.. Why? Needed a new van so bought another Disco 2 V8 ES Auto exactly the same as our first car, took all the rear seats out and deluded myself it would make the ideal works vehicle... No! I'm putting £100 of fuel in a week how stupid can you be? Still, ran it for over 2 years before finally coming to my senses, refitting all the seats and selling it.
Bought a proper van, Fiat Doblo, perfect, 50 to the gallon, loads of space, ran it for 6 months..... Now just bought a Disco 3 Commercial with star ship mileage and a dodgy handbrake off ebay to replace it, please, please help me! Honestly Love no more Land Rovers... promise.
No what's that, that's a bargain, really, and if we had that we could keep the big Range Rover for family holidays and camping, yes of course it makes perfect sense and I'm sure we can get it on the drive somehow. Picking up a 2013 Evoque tomorrow... No more.. Honestly.
Is there some charity out there where Land Rover addicts can go and talk about our illness and get help.
Still at least I haven't thought about buying a Defender...yet, Hmmm lets have a little look on Ebay
