Rear wiper & washer
Just fixed my rear wiper and washer.
The rear wiper motor is a completely crap design. It has a hollow wiper arm spindle which is used to pipe water from the rear washer pump to the rear washer jets. The seal in the motor fails, the whole motor then gets filled with washer water and corrodes out the inside. Look on youtube to find out how to remove the trim, wiper motor and rear spoiler.
The wiper motor is driven by the electronics pack fitted to the back of it. Inside here is a solid state relay with current sensing. If the wiper motor is even a little bit sticky and not yet seized this increase of current is sensed and it shuts the motor down.
With your wiper motor in hand, remove the torx screws, open it up and clean out all the crap. Grease it well and reassemble. With a soldering iron de-solder the wire from the electronics pack to the motor. Then connect the motor contact to a battery and an earth to the frame and the motor should then run. If all is OK the current will be <1 amp and it shouldn't sound too laboured.
Solder the wire back on and refit the motor to the tailgate. It should now run OK.
Remove the culprit of all this anguish, "the washer hose that goes into the back of the motor". There is a non-return valve in the hose, mine was blocked solid so clean it out, get a new one or toss it and do without.
On the left top edge of the tailgate is a blank grommet, pop this out punch a hole in it to take the washer hose. Route the washer hose through this grommet into the rear spoiler. I drilled a 10mm hole in the lower edge of the spoiler so I could route the hose through it and back out so that it sprays water on to the rear screen and not into the wiper motor.
Problem fixed.

Change your number plates before you get a pull from plod. Spacing is all wrong and cannot be read by ANPR cameras so illegal. £60 + 3 points

So two things are new. I got some 22" Asantis (it won't appeal to some I'm sure don't kill me) and my gearbox is out of order. I will gather my pictures and updates and get the thread up to date.

Wow, nice thread, reminds me of the happy days I had doing the same to my ZF5HP24 and I also had Phil watching over me and without him i think the outcome would have been very different, you are in very safe hands

So time to update this thread as its long over due.

RR is fitting nicely with his brothers.

So back in December I've done the gearbox oil change.

Of course casual spil was in order.

Sump out:

New oils and filter:

Sump looked okay no alarms here me thinks.

Quick clean up:

The mighty block:

Oil cooler pipes dripping too.

Flush time:

Until it was flowing with clean oil.
Quick assesment of seals make sure you got two out then two in! They get stuck.

New filter on then sump and refill.

Then some forum post by RRPhil to help fill this thing right. Bosch KTS plugged in to monitor the oil temp to get the right fill.

Some old errors from the transfer case that were addressed by simply cleaning the plug.

Tested some other readouts:

Obviously since then the gearbox has gone and is being refurbed as we speak.

I think also the time came (Feb 16) that RR was wearing the tyres on the outside and before the cord showed up we decided to change up:

The ramp couldn't get the car high enough so we had to use the jack from the tool kit.

That kicked things out of sync with the EAS

Afterwards quick tracking done.

The adjustment nut wouldn't move so we treated it to some induction.

So bonnet up!

That car looks like a hungry pacman with the bonnet in service position, which switching to it's a piece of cake I was thinking there will be more hustle rather than 2 clips.

My car was in a need of a proper battery since the old one was just crap. It only would hold about 10V and be a struggle to start. And when you get to the car and open it the seat adjusts and so does the steering and mirrors while all the interior lights are on then glow plugs heating up I pretty much had no juice to start. Since we left the car for few days while the gearbox was being rebuilt the old battery went flat and after charging it, it would barely survive the night. So I got a good deal on this Bosch battery.

Turned out that the old battery had an dead cell

The car starts so much better and completely effortlessly. The HDC Inactive message which I always had on the dash when starting gone away too. It made so much difference.

And I know this isn't the 019 battery with 115Ah but it was new and really cheap and it will perform way better than the old one by a mile! And it's Bosch not some cheap PRC part.

Yeah, yeah, yeah I've still got it...... Update time. Last major thing to fail was the gearbox which was fixed by me and its still going strong, better than ever to be honest.
My fairy lights and front indicators decided to stop working too but that took couple of hours to take the lamps out and do some soldering. The car received two stage paint correction and ceramic coating at Prestige Automotive Vehicle Detailing in Bristol. It's so easy to clean now. In may I am going to get the leather seats reconditioned as well by these guys. I also decided to get a mirror repair kit to fix my floppy non folding mirrors as they are getting on a verge of dangerous. Plus they will get colour coded to the body.

For now I am keeping the car as literally all is well and we love it. Next few months it will get an Android based headunit w/ reverse camera and I might connect the front cameras from the bumper too, seat refurb as mentioned before and the gray interior plastics wrapped in gloss black.

I've been tinkering with a TD6 myself lately that belongs to a friend, i think we have brought it back from the brink of death so I would think a transmission rebuild will be on the cards at some point so i'll have a look back over your thread when the time comes as i've never looked into the GM transmission.
i hope you don't mind but i rotated your fot

My gearbox drove and I decided to fix it when it was going into failsafe rather than ride it out till its death. When you ride the worn clutches the temperature seems to damage the membranes too which luckily didn't have to do. I got another box kicking about. I refurbed the TQ but never really bothered to fixed the gearbox so I got it for sale if you need one.

My gearbox drove and I decided to fix it when it was going into failsafe rather than ride it out till its death. When you ride the worn clutches the temperature seems to damage the membranes too which luckily didn't have to do. I got another box kicking about. I refurbed the TQ but never really bothered to fixed the gearbox so I got it for sale if you need one.

There are a large number of threads around with blank photobucket links to them, mine included.

The transmission is working perfectly at the moment, but at 110K miles and no sign of it being replaced, disaster can't be far away, i am toying with the idea of a new TC, fluid and filter change and having the valve body refurbed with the sonnax upgrade.

It is the turbo that is giving me a bit of a challenge currently but i think it is just the VNT sticking and causing an overboost and limp mode.
I have disconnected the vacuum pipe to the actuator at the moment and it drives great and that is limiting the boost pressure to 2 bar rather than the 2.5 bar it reaches which causes the overboost but it is only a short term fix until I can get some more time on it.

Yours is looking great, it is amazing how good these still look when you apply a bit of TLC and my mate was set on selling his until i took him out in it after i had fixed the injector loom, temporarily sorted the turbo and put a new battery on it and I think he remembered why he bought it in the first place after driving it again. i think if you go through the pain of fixing the common faults they become pretty reliable and will probably be good for another 100K miles with the exception of usual wear and tear.

@holidaychicken Very similar, just have to hope they don't become as greedy. A small charge I could understand, almost, but the leap from free to loadsamoney, was ridiculous.
