My much loved 1999 BMW 735i in Glacier Green (silver-ish).
A comfortable motorway cruiser and urban street bruiser, the 735i is the best of both worlds frugal and a V8!!, especially on LPG....not only do you get V8 power and that awesome soundtrack you only pay 70p a litre too...
Lets get the 'bad' points over and done with:
Cracked O/S front Fog Lens, Bonnet edge stone chips, small rust bubble on the O/S rear wheel arch, rust bubble on boot lower trim, 2" scratch and stone chip on N/S rear door, rumble from cold start due to Secondary Air Injection Pump but after 20 seconds and the SAI pump has been switched off she runs sweet and smooth...research can be made on BMW forums, this seems to be a common occurrence apparently! Drivers seat could do with some leather dye due to my fat bum and the drivers arm rest could also do with some leather treatment! MOT due 12th November 2014 and Tax end of December 2014. No telephone handset, a couple of missing pixels on the MID and the CD changer seems to not like working! These are photographed.
OK, now that bit is over lets list the vehicle details:
29th October 1999 was her birthday, she was given the M62TUB35 3.5 litre V8 with VANOS and this gives you a much loved 235bhp from stock! BMW had decided to give her the Glacier Green colour which is a silvery/blue/aqua colour and she suits it well. Shod with alloy wheels, nothing overly outrageous, just quietly stately.
She has the mid-life front end up date with the scalloped headlamps and the clear front indicators. Chrome under the headlamps and round the kidney grill gives her a bright and smiling face that hides the V8 unit under her vast bonnet.
The M62 is mated to the 5 speed ZF automatic gearbox that is smooth and refined that adapts to the drivers style to make optimum use of the V8 power in a manner the driver is accustomed to. The ZF box alos features a sport mode for faster acceleration times and for those who like to be in control, she features the BMW Steptronic manual gear shift selection too...just for those 'fun' times we all crave!
She doesn't adorn herself with the usual model number on the rear as she likes to keep herself to herself, only when you open the fly-by-wire throttle link and that V8 girds her loins does anyone realise that this pretty girl turns into El Diablo, bears her teeth and roars off with a V8 soundtrack that is subdued but rightfully throaty at the same time!
Internally she has the Parchment Leather electrically adjustable seats, wood panelling and pleated door cards. 3 position memory drivers seat ensures she can carry her driver in comfort and refinement.
The standard BMW Business sound system is more than capable of playing either Vivaldi or Ramstein, whatever your taste is to a level and clarity that most of us mortals will be more than pleased with.
She allows her driver to sit in comfort with dual zone climate control with Air Conditioning (that works!) with finger tip digital controls to set the conditions just so. and just to ensure her driver is comfortable on hot days, she sports auxiliary ventilation that can be timed to ventilate the car at a preset time to make the interior nice and cool.
She provides her driver with various parameters displayed on the MID panel including consumption figures, range, average speed, timers, etc. A couple of pixels are missing from the MID, but it doesn't ruin it's functionality.
In her boot is the 90 litre (75 useable) LPG tank tucked up against the back seats, that while this removes a bit of boot space, does mean you still have a spare wheel!
Lift her bonnet and you'll find the M62TUB35 V8 engine and the installed OMVL Dream 21N Multipoint LPG system. this system will automatically change over to LPG when ready and also when the LPG is empty she'll automatically switch back to petrol...this changeover is seamless.
As she approaches her 15th birthday, she may be a superseded model, but take a gander on the internet forums and chat rooms and you'll see she is much loved above her successors, often referred to s the last of the great 7'ers and the one most loved by the enthusiasts.
She has expensive tastes but as these fine cruisers age, the amount of information and parts sources out there increases and really helps the DIY owner to love their ol' ladies even more, so don't be put off by the supposed high running costs, there is help on forums to get you out of most jams.
Her service book has only got stamps up 68k miles, but she has been lovingly looked after as her condition will attest.
I bought her last year as my girlfriend was pregnant and struggling to get in her Fiat 500, so I handed her the keys to my car and there was no way on earth I was going to drive her bright yellow Fiat 500 to work so I bought this as a replacement. Now our beautiful daughter has arrived, the other half can fit in her 500 again, I get my other car back and I just can't keep all 3, so this lovely lady has to go!
I have been as honest as I can with the knowledge I have but viewing is recommended.
She is currently kept in a secure car park where I work near Heathrow as I don't have space due to parking permits where I live so I can do viewings during the working day, that being said if Heathrow is a bit out of the way or an evening is best, let me know in advance and I will bring her home (Woking area) of an evening so you can take a look. I do about 50 miles a week in her at the moment to ensure she gets a run.
Will be a massive shame to see her go, but she doesn't get used as much as she deserves and I would love to see her go to a good home.
