    Number plates

Just search Ebay... I have ordered several sets over the years and always good. Pick road legal ones not show plates, you don't need to produce any documents and you will save a fair few £s. 2 days later they pop through the door.

    Best ever fuel consumption

Coming back from Aviemore I got 31.4 in my 1997 110 with a 300tdi engine and a roof rack.... mind you... it is down hill :)

Bulkhead Outrigger - Patch or Replace?

The price of a new outrigger is not expensive and it's worry free for many years and its a proper job. No new holes next year....

Best suspension for road/light off road use, land rover 90

I put standard genuine LR springs and dampers on mine... I would suggest standard OEM stuff (not Britpart) and no lift... spend the saved money on diff guards and maybe a Rebel steering guard. Mine copes very well with most conditions. A two inch lift is nothing and in my view not worth the...

    gears stiff

When did you last change your gearbox fluids? It's worth a shot to make sure you have the right stuff in and it is filled correctly.... check out Busters Guide as it's not straight forward..... could be a clutch issue? Has this problem recently started?

    Leaky leaky

Please add page 35 when you sort your leak.... sound proofing rear seats is a bit heavy... a fat bird and some WD40 normally sorts that one :)

    defender advise needed

Mine is far to cheap on sale at £7500 for you but up to 1998 you can still get a 300tdi engine if you like to do things yourself like mine... if you want to splash out and its a main use vehicle have a look online with Autotrader or Ebay for an idea on what you can get for your money.

    removing window winder handle

Yes it will be a circlip, took me a while first time the fiddly little gits.... one tip... refit with the window closed tight and fit the winder at '10'oclock' for the drivers door and '2 o'clock' for the passenger side... then it wont be rubbing on knees.

Well it was close to the wheel :) and Santa is okay so happy days

    worrying jingling noise underneath :(

Had it been Christmas the jingling would have been easily explained :) As would some small stones in a hub cap....if you are sure its the drivers side wheel area take the wheel off and tap everything with a hammer.... a real outsider would be is stones inside the tyre being kicked up and hitting...

    Defender Rear Wheel Mount?

I would agree that a swing away carrier is the best option but you should get one that opens with the door..... I am lead to believe that the ones that swing away separate from the door prevent anyone from opening the door to get out from the inside.... not good in the event of an accident

    Defender white roof paint?

Brilliant white is not the original colour of your roof... it's likely to be Alpine white but you will have to google to be sure. I would not paint it unless it really needs it... try a T cut and a wax you may get a nice surprise

    plylining and insulating

Be careful about using camping mat as some types hold water like a sponge... if you are looking for insulation that will reduce condensation behind ply or headlining you could look at using B and Q double sided insulation foil... its bubble rap that has foil on both sides. Have a peep at this...

Insurance problem with NFU for 1996 defender 12 seats

My 1997 300tdi 110 CSW is an ex BT vehicle...3 seats in front and 3 middle row... none in back. Lancaster Insurance £170 fully comp. A Flux etc will slaughter that quote....no need to take seats out, more trouble than its worth

Electrical problem - suddenly lost speedo, fuel, indicators.

:DIt was part of the driving test when I passed in 1971..... it's quite natural to let the right arm breath in warm weather

    Service gear

I use Asda or any supermarket own brand mineral oil 15/40 suitable older diesel engines... what ever is cheapest. Change every spring or 6000 miles, mineral oil is best for our old engines. Don't be tempted to think more expensive is better as your engine likes full fat oil... not diet stuff :)
