So for a good while now ive had noise from around the drivers wheel,

noise is a jingling/rattling noise, similar in sound to that of two loose washers rattling on a bolt.

its not affected by engine speed/road speed/engaging or disengaging to clutch and seems intermittent. mostly it is only noticeable when the road surface is rough. ive been underneath and nothing is jumping out at me, have checked shock mounting bolts/washers, all steering connections, and pretty much all visible nuts and bolts.

Im intent on finding it though... for fear it falls off!! :jaw:

any suggestions of where to look?!

Um

Strange not affected by engine or road speed

See if the exhaust down pipe is catching on anything - had that on a Dolomite 1850 many many years ago and was similar to how your describe

Had it been Christmas the jingling would have been easily explained :) As would some small stones in a hub cap....if you are sure its the drivers side wheel area take the wheel off and tap everything with a hammer.... a real outsider would be is stones inside the tyre being kicked up and hitting the wheel.... I will have 10p each way on the dust shields.

Lower shock absorber rubbers squashed up and washers jangling around!!
Jack up grab shock and shake it !! New rubbers will be required !!

Good call. Happened to me recently. Offside rear rubbers dropped off as large domed washer corroded away. Nut still on shaft but whole shock rattling in its mount.

Other causes:

Prop shaft UJ's
Exhaust.
Turbo heat shield.
Handbrake mechanism - when it rattles just try pulling the handbrake up a notch and see if it stops.

Shocks and springs are all new but ill check again to make sure they are all tight, Ujs are all new too so doubt it's that, ill check dust covers, handbrake and heat shields this evening and see how it looks, thanks lads!

FOUND IT!!! it was one of the long bolts that holds the front bumper to the chassis legs, it as a little bit loose and had a washer on the end of it, nipped it up, all fixed :)
