Right well I hate gaping holes in my Landy, if I did I would of bought a jeep. anyway! I was wondering how to repair this old slug in my nice lettuce:

Look at that horrible repair that the owner before had done!

Would I buy these?: 1 Pair of Landrover Defender Bulkhead Repair Panels on eBay (end time 16-Feb-11 09:01:00 GMT) :nospamhere:
or ones like it, or is a total bulkhead replacement

Then I was wondering what this is called on the side (can't even think what to call them, strengthening beams?) and if you can buy them. If not how do I go about repairing the rust circled in red

Thankyou and I hope you can help!

you could use those for bulkhead get rid of all rust weld in place grind down and fill to smooth, rear tub cappings are what the rear bits are and are only riveted in place, dont remove roof to do them as windscreen to roof seal can be hard to get right again

id say new bulkhead an them things on the side are called capping's i think you can get them on fleebay

didnt see the link yes one of them

Ah thankyou Lanny man And James! Ok so with the bulkhead repair panels do I place them over the exsisting bulkhead? and Ok is it a fairly easy job then to replace the cappings?

cappings is easy better take windscreen with roof as you dont have hinges, cut out rust but over lap joints to weld if you dont have use of joggler,it wont butt weld very easily

Can you weld? If not, do you know someone who can? That bulkhead can be repaired. Cappings are just nuts, bolts and rivets. Series Landys had galvanized cappings - shame they didn't do the same on the Defenders :(

Ah went down the new bulkhead route mesel'. Mainly because my bulkhead was pretty rotten...

Ah lifted me roof / sides and screen altogether (which ye'll probably be best doin' anaw) and sat them on bits of wood to take the bulkhead out...

It's handy if there's a couple of ye's to lift the lot off as ye'll need a wee bit of room to cut and weld those repair panels in;)

Ah've only got capping part numbers for a 110 (non station wagon)...

MXC5973 (r/h)
MXC5974 (l/h)

MWC2120 (r/h)
MWC2121 (l/h)

not sure if these are galvanised or not, but my old 200tdi ones are;)
