Getting clutch pins changed mon, so thought may as well check dual mass flywheel too, as getting funny vibration, almost like fuel starvation when idling after a long run, whole car shakes, then after brief tap on throttle stops? But doesn't always do it....Found a dmf for 200 plus vat direct from luk who manufacture them, but now wont sell me it as i'm not trade..Any ideas? Anyone got good secondhand one? Cheers

i agree, but i havnt got £6oo plus vat i'v been quoted....Also if it is dmf causing vibration at idle, surely it would do it all the time??

Try a PM to juiceyv8, he say's he's in the trade, may be able to get it at trade price for you:D

Chuck me a PM if you get stuck. sadly the only real way to check a DMF is to drop the box and have a gander at it.

DMFs are not just on P38s.A lot of cars run them both petrol and diesel
And they are a pain in the arse TBH.

juicey.

My car had the strange vibration at idle when the engine was warm, tickover all over the place and a blip of the throttle would fix it. An almost nailed on cert that the DMF is worn and needs replacing. A new one fitted by me fixed it, lovely again, and much nicer drive too.

This was the cheapest place when I got mine last summer. New clutch too.

was tickover erratic all the time when warm? Mines a bit sporadic, i guess i'll found out on mon when gearbox comes off and dmf can be checked for play....cheers for response.

It's a well know symptom that the DMF has failed.

I remember vividly when mine started. I went on a 3 hour drive and when I arrived, the tickover was wierd, thought nothing of it as it went away at the time.

Mine slowly got worse over 6 months, and the hotter the engine became (hotter flywheel is the issue, hence warmer springs and loose masses), the worse the tickover when stationary. Somethimes a blip would not correct it at all.

You only notice the problem when your stationary, but the car does not drive smoothly too, you just don't notice it. When you get a new DMF and clucth the whole car drives miles better, then you get used to that, and it's normal! lol
