The great thing about this forum, is that where ever we post is a convenient place. It is most disappointing when a thread doesn't get hi-jacked;)

I am not hijacking this thread, indeed i recall i posted very early on it. But the OP may be annoyed or the purist.

Me, I giveth not a Defender.

I wasn't insinuating that you had. I think the OP got an answer to his query in the first post or two, so he can't be annoyed and the thread is then fair game for digression.

Here we go again, sarcastic replies that are not called for or needed but yet again they continue.

Shame members like this let a good forum down.

Sorry short fuse but my post was not meant to be sarcastic. I was pleased that YOUR attitude became more normal, that's why I said there was a difference. Thanks.

I always start to read from the first non-read post, so after I posted my answer I saw there were about 4 more pages of, in my opinion, normal reactions. In the rules and regulations to become a member of this forum it should be stated that if one's mental age is over 14 he'd not be allowed to join. (Passed that age it looks as "laughter" is forbidden in many people's life).:mad::mad::mad:. Maybe they fear to get cracks in the face when they smile or laugh, to advise them, do it more often (smile and laugh) and your skin will stay flexible and wrinklefree for ages.....:D:D:D

Steptronic is/was the name as it was sold back in october 2000 and means in fact the same as yours: Auto. (Commandshift--> either Normal, Sport or Manual).;)

Thanks, I was not aware they ever called it a steptronic box, in fact when I read my manual for the first time I thought i'd bought a Merc with the commandshift etc.

Nice box tho innit?

The term steptronic was used when still under the wings of BMW. That brand still uses it for their autoboxes. As I said before, the Td4 is the best of two worlds. The engine and everything else mechanically except of the drivetrain is BMW and all the rest, including the drivetrain is LandRover (or Steyr Puch if you insist)......:D:D:D
And to answer the question, yes, the box is really nice but I find, and that's personal opinion, both the engine and the box are a more homogeneous match when the car is chipped. The engine runs more freely and the box also much more at ease as in standard version. It always felt to me as if the car had difficulties to get moving where now it's agile as something agile......

Surprised they get such vitriolic comments.
