Sorry to drag this up, but I am in a dilema.

Spent two days reading the threads on this forum; loads of 300TDi owners use veggie oil apparently (or used to - old threads).

How many of you have used it for a long time and had NO injection problems?

A thread from this site led me to here:

Diesel Bob Tuning - Veg Vehicles

and here:

Diesel Bob Tuning - Vegetable Bob

It seems he knows his stuff.

Seeing as my 300TDi ES auto does less than 10k per year, is old with 120k miles on the clock, would I be right in thinking that it is not worth the risk to the pump seals, injector nozzles, possible de-gumming of cylinders and therefore lower compression when the veg oil is £1.10 per L and diesel is £1.38 per L.

I would love to use it if it did no damage, cleaned my system through (without loss of compression) and saved 20p per L (or better if I can buy veg oil cheaper), but if I am going to need a new inj pump etc in 2 years, it just isn't worth it is it?

Yours in confusion and thanks in advance.

Forgot to ask, what about using central heating oil (cho)? (very cheap to buy)

Red diesel is 35 second and cho is 28 second as far as I know. But cho feels abrasive when rubbed between fingers whilst red diesel feels smoother.

loads of people using veg, some say as its a di engine you will get ring gumming but good oil changes and a flush every 5k or water injection should sort that,

check out the veg forum in my sig and do some reading.

as for heating oil or red if you are in the uk then ilegal, heating oil will probably kill the engine, get caught and the whole car gets crushed.

from what i read gumming happens as a result of too much fuel being added into the bore, and not being burnt off. I've run both of mine on veg, with no problems. Mine have even run 100%. My current disco has just had aload of engine work, runs veg alot better. Found that the pump had been turned up alittle to much, and was washing the bores with diesel. The bores were very glazed(aren't now). If your wanting to give the veg ago, run it say 40% veg 60% diesel for abit, see how it goes

IMO DO NOT USE VEG OIL IN YOUR CAR .

The reason is this, your car will have EDC and the control injector is extremely difficult and expensive to buy.

Not worth the risk to me.
