Sounds like the really issue is how to tow safely. How common are staberlisers of any type on horse boxes? At work we use bate and dixon pins, no stablisers. Silly in my opinion. Its quite rare to have a caravan without a stabaliser wether itz a alko type hitch or old skool bulldog stablisers.

i have towed for years every accident i have seen 90% of them are a brand new car brand new caravan.

as for rog, he seems to have swallowed the regs book. knows the rules, clueless about real life towing. (ok, so maybe ok with an empty trailer, but loading it.......)
Yes definately about how to tow safely. However the argument between me (and a few others) and Rog (and a few others) is around the advice given in the HHO towing clinic and other threads.
This one being a good example. Has anyone used a 1.8 Passat Highline for towing? - Horse and Hound Forums The Ifor 510 this guy wants to tow with a car is rated for 2.7 tonnes. It weighs about 1 tonne. The horse weighs just short of 500Kg. The car can tow 1500Kg. They guy would have to downrate the trailer to 1500Kg.
Yes it would then be legal, but why would you???
This is one of the big Ifor horse trailers, the smaller ones have 88Kg noseweight (without a horses jumping around in the back) this one is heavier.

The issue there isnt the car or the trailer its the down rating.
The down rating is the easy bit.
Read the thread, its comical. Especially the last post where the OP says it will be OK unless the horse puts a bit of weight on

Clarky130 is bogged after attempting to tow his caravan up Bluebeasties field. Accywingy attempted to extract the combo in his 90. After Accys attempt failed I got in front of Accy in my 110 and it still wouldn't budge.
In the end we unhitched the caravan and Accy extracted Clarky with a kinetic rope and I then towed the caravan up the field and positioned it so it could be driven downhill to come out of the field at a later time.

I towed the scrap disco minus engine with the 90 on twin wheeled trailer. To be honest didn't like it. Felt heavy and very keen to wobble.

See this is more weight to my argument. What would have happened if that was horse trailers towed by cars. They would still be there
Must admit I dont have a winch, it is on my shopping list eventually.
