Why is the insurance so high?

I've got 11years+ NCB and keep both of my cars in a locked garage.
My 'normal' car is a 911 cabriolet which is insured with AXA for £350 including all the extras. I brought the Freelander as a family runabout, trips to B&Q etc.
The cheapest I could get it insured is with AXA (as they allow my NCB to be used on both cars) but it still cost £470!
Anyone know what a £2.5K Freelander costs more to insure than a 180mph group 20 Porsche???

Don't make sense to me.

Try moneysupermarket.com then give your insurer the quote and see if they will match it on a multicar insurance

The insurance on my old 02 1.8 freelander was £493 with 14 years no claims, i got a jeep patriot 2.0crd a few weeks back, the insurance for the year is £297, also the tax is a hundred quid cheaper.
No idea why the insurance is more expensive for a freelander as the jeep is newer and more expensive with a bigger engine.

have you added anything onto your freelander as insurance rip of company's will take this all into account as modified I have a 2006 hse auto and I think mine cost me about £290 with Churchill ,it is all depending on how many miles you do a year and your age and the cost of spares and replacement, ring around and see what you can get, and then go back to your own insurance people and tell them you can get it cheaper and see what they say , they should match it, or try to lower annual mileage by a couple of thou.

could be it breaks down more, or more expensive to repair after a acciddent

breaking down more would cost no more on Insurance but parts will also I have always argued this with insurance companies but they do not want to listen when you car goes in for repair they charge Hundreds of pounds for the paint alone per ltr. when you can get the same paint 2 pack all in for about 50-60 pounds it is about time the insurance companies woke up to this.

Fully comp on my V6 cost me £180 for the year, but then I am 427 years old and I live in the middle of a primeval swamp.

The same as this^^^^
V6 10K miles a year. Parked off road in a rural location. I paid £180 fully comp. My Discovery 3 is slightly more at £220 for the same cover. Location is the key I fear.

I used to pay £180 for my Disco and now pay just a tad over £210 for my 2005 Freelander TD4, fully comp, parked on driveway.

You generally pay more than regular cars if you drive a 4x4, as whilst you may be relatively safer inside one, they are capable of causing significant damage to other vehicles in a collision. All part of the insurers risk factor.

There as to be more too it as my new jeep is only £297 were as my old freelander was touching 500 notes, i wonder if it was because it was older they thought it would cost more to repair but saying that they'd right it off it wasn't economical to fix.

Are you using your NCB on the 911?

If so, you can't use the NCB twice so that may be making a difference. We have the facility to mirror NCB onto a second policy if you would like me to see what we can offer?

We'll also be able to give a discount if this is just a second car that is going to cover a low annual mileage.

If you PM me your details I can arrange for us to give you a call.

Regards,
Jordan

I have 14 years ncb, limited miles policy, mods = stronger sump guard, coolant sensor and hellfire missiles, garaged at night and loved like a family pet. £476 fully comp. Probably high as it's a prize target buy the tratterers. Insurance group 25 as it's a v6.

seems pricey

seems pricey
They all seem to be about the same or higher. Some are lower but they don't give the same amount of cover. It's how it goes I guess. Since starting to drive it's always been around £500 after the 3rd year of motoring.

My NCB is tied up in our other car so have insured our Freelander in my wife's name so she can start building her own NCB.
This has increased my insurance cost from £450 per year to £200 per month! Using Admiral multi car and did a lot of shopping around for best price too :(

It does pay to shop around using a price comparison site, a lad at work brought his insurance renewal letter in with a quote of £602 for the year, he's been with same company for 6 yeras and renewed each year with the same firm and it's gone up in price each year aswell.

I got him to join the price comparison site i got mine on and he couldn't belive the price difference the best quote was £193, the company he was already with quoted £247 how can they justify a price of £602 if he'd just let it renew then quoting £247 on confused when competing with other insurance providers, it shows they'll charge what ever they think they can get away with.

He went with the best pice one £193 it's with a well known name awell, 400 quid is a big saving, i think he'll be checking around every year from now on.
