Is anyone else finding the P38 has become almost uninsurable?

Living in the Croydon area, the normal online compare insurance policies are £1000+
Classic car insurance is even more expensive. Just been quoted £1500 by one of the big name classic car insurance firms.

They think it's a combination of the Croydon area, prices increasing generally (which has resulted in fewer options) and the Range Rover having a bad name for theft.
A P38 in terms of risk of accident and theft is pretty low.
It's a slow car that's hard to steal with little value.
It should be an insurers dream and one of the cheapest cars to insure.

What's going on?
Anybody faced similar problems and ground a workaround?

My premium last year was £500 using Comparethemarket.

Got to fund all the electric car write offs

It's just about the same with every car and every person.
Unfortunately our car insurance premiums pay for everyone else's claim not just our own.
The stolen, stripped cars are at an all time high, we have to pay.

I did some GoCompare quotes a while ago and was getting around £1000-1200. Came to renewal and it had dropped to less than I was currently paying, by the time I’d added breakdown, protected NCB and a couple other bits it was the same as last year.

Don’t know if I got lucky or it was a weird blip, but I won’t complain too much.

Thanks to FootmanJames I managed to get a quote for £500. About half of the next best offer. That'll do, I'm done hunting around.

It would be interesting to see how difficult a P38 would be to steal. Look at it wrong and it will lock you out.
I'll stick to my Classic, though having said that it locked me out earlier this year when the driver's door catch decided to disintegrate (after 36 years)

What a game the Indie had, door wouldn't open (even when un-locked) from outside or in, how do you get a door card off when the door is jammed shut o_O
He managed it eventually, though the labour + parts wasn't cheap.

As an aside, I saw a talk by Martin Lewis and 23 days out from renewal is the sweet spot for getting new insurnace. Set a reminder in your phone, and start looking with 23 days left on your current policy to get the best deals. The nearer you get to the renewal date the higher it gets.

True did mine about 26 days before renewal

My insurance wanted to rise from 200 to 600. After a lot of ringing around I managed to get it down to 400. Which is wild because I have 15 years no claims and if I ever get in a bender even minor, they'll just write it off.

Beauty is in the eye with ‘38s and their relative simplicity
Well I’ve got one, and would ask “relative to what??”
Admittedly mine has been “simplified” by switching the space-hoppers for coil springs.
You know, springs, like the ones in classic Bentleys, Ferraris and Alfas.
