P38A Insurance prices getting silly

This seems so random. Our P38 is insured in my wife's name with me as a named driver ( with a small accident to my name. Insurance came up for renewal and over doubled from £240 to £600. Quick use of a comparison website and First Central came in at £225 :) This company seem super competitive as a week before I had an I identical issue on a 5L BMW and got the same kind of deal.

I have just had the renewal for the p38 its gone up £70 to £254 still not to bad .
You are very tolerant, considering your insurers have more than tripled your premium
My RRC renewal is due mid August .. hope I get a better deal than that or there will be some choice comments.

Mine has not tripled its gone up £70, it was £184 now £254

Sorry, misread your post as increasing to £254 from £70 !
Another senior moment
Hi All,

Just been on the insurance hunt and managed to get it down.

Took a few hours of phoning about etc.

Price comparison site 840
Lancaster 760
Carole Nash 3000 !!!!
A flux flux got down to 486 limited mileage
The winner…

Footman James 353 classic limited mileage policy. With agreed salvage rights.

It’s worth shopping about, that’s for me and other half with 2 no fault accidents declared.
Parked on driveway, SE England (Kent)
Only 2000miles tho. But that’s about right for us as as an occasional weekend car and backup vehicle.

Hopefully it’s of use to someone.
Now I’ve just got to fix the car again!

Jacob

I also found Footman James the cheapest at £550. Adrian Flux wouldn't insure me. Think I was asking for 4000 miles per year, no points, no accidents but living in Croydon which is full of NEDs.

Yeh footman James came out good, if it was much more I couldn’t justify the cost as a spare vehicle. Strangely the quote was less if parked on drive at home instead of on a farm lockup in a secure building!

I’m waiting for the l322 renewal to see how much that’s been jacked up. Anyone had any luck getting those on classic policy? Ours is 21 years old now.

My 1993 90 has been on a classic policy for over 2 years now.

Try Grove & Dean. My 1998 P38 was £219 for the year back in November. Includes Legal Cover and Excess Protection.

The other P38 renewed for £339 back in September. Esure price matched the best online quotes for me at the time.

What I can never understand is that these quotes all come from brokers, not insurers .. so why the huge disparity in prices o_O

The client's details, representing either a good or bad risk, remains the same & there are only so many insurance companies out there. Is it that some insurers are more anal about defining a particular risk factor, whereas others may be more accommodating?

Look through the details. The G&D policy above was 50% from insurers and the rest legal & excess plus broker cost !

Many are 60-80% retailer

They all do the normal risk factors. Then they have their own to add on. Stuff they have detected from their records of claims like chav performance cars more likely to crash. Refusing certain people or vehicles as too high risk. You then have to consider what they offer for the money. Headlines info is great but they may automatically write yer car oft in a crash. Or not want the hassel of fighting your side in a claim, leaving you at failt. Or dun't have the back office to give good customer service. Or reduce the amount of repair they would normally carry out as the cars not in good condition.

Just pulled the L322 Supercharged off our Admiral Multicar Policy as they doubled the premium despite having no claims or convictions i previous year. The increase wiped out the discounts given on our other three cars, what a scam. So I’m currently looking into a single policy fit the Range as comparison sites have plenty lower priced policies to choose from. Wish me luck among the sharks.
Tricky

Fortunately I have the 3 year price fix with Saga, £426, I have another year after this one so I have no idea what it will go up to in 2026! I did actually do a comparison to see and TBH the Saga price is the best for what I have got on the policy. I did try Hastings Churchill and Direct Line and they declined, and now they are emailing me to ask why I haven't insured with them!!!!

My daughter who has just passed her test, first car vauxhall corsa 2018 ,4.5k for insurance, she's 21 in the forces since 18.
My first car back in 1980 was an Austin 1100 and insurance was £105 for an 18 year old, week and a half's wages then. That was third party only though no fire and theft, the bugger set itself on fire a month later, a series of unfortunate occurrences of which were all my own fault. Even the tax disc went up(fire started in the drivers footwell and set me flares alight so I was pre occupied putting myself out to think of rescuing the tax disc!)
Big fire, even the seals in the engine melted and the sump oil kept the blaze going well.
Just reminiscing.... :vb-lol:

My first car I purchased for £10 in 1959 before I was old enough to have a car licence. When I got my provisional licence, insurance cost me £15 third party only. The car was a 1936 DX Vauxhall with a six cylinder engine. Amazing how the politicians have managed to devalue money in my lifetime.
