G'day,

Looking into exporting a short motor from turner engineering to Australia, as my head is in good nic on my 99 td5 disco. Cylinder 1 is down on comp 180psi so I'm thinking just grab a re hauled short motor from them.
Anyone got an experience with there motors? Do they seem to run well and expectations powerwise also.

Cheers

Luke

Should I ask the question if its worth rebuilding the whole engine myself or going down the path of just buying a short motor?

Cheers
Luke:)

Probably just a bent con rod which is quite common. If you are happy to do the work its a nice engine to build.Turner engineering will supply all the bits you need to do a decent rebuild.Despite many peoples comments there is nothing to be scared of if its done properly.

Thanks Sierra,

I'm getting closer:)

Can you elaborate on why they would bend conrod's? And there seems to quite a few that have cyclinder #1 that seems to go, not to sure why???

Thanks

Can't fault Turners for customer service, Frida is an absolute star.

I'm just doing a partial rebuild on my engine, it's not hard, just have to be methodical and keep things clean. Full disassembly and rebuild starts from mid way down this page -> http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/bennehboys-d2-adventure-254514-19.html

I've just put new bearings in the block and am about to start cleaning up the ancillaries and sump for refit.

They bend rods when there is something in the combustion chamber that shouldn't be there.Often coolant from a blown head gasket, sometimes diesel from a failed injector washer - or maybe as has been suggested, when an injector is removed to change washers and o rings. It follows that most people would remove injector 1 first,so any diesel in the head would be able to run down into #1 cylinder. If its not ejected before the injector is replaced it could hydraulic and bend the rod.
Best to crank the engine with all the injectors out to make sure the chambers are clear before refitting them.
Anyone changing a head gasket on a TD5 without measuring piston protusions is asking for trouble.
