Yes there is there's the boss who quoted 7hrs but expects it done in 3.5hrs so he can rip 2 poor bastids of instead of just the one. and make even more money. Most mechanics are on about £8 to £10 an hour. and have the boss breathing down there necks to make sure he gets his pound of flesh out of them.

ya just can't trust anyone these days

DIY, it's the only way to go .....

I have worked in a ford main stealer and a independent garage.... Both seemed to have the same amount of work productivity, I have been around a few garages in the local area (Say 5??) and they all seem to work about the same... If they don't the boss shouts at em.... but it does depend on what you see as alot of garages i suppose.. But you do hear alot of stories about garages ripping people off...

So are you gonna offer to fix this problem for the damsel in distress?

Seein as tho you sound an eggspurt :D

have you got some pictures of the underneath of it, maybe there's crossmembers and outriggers that also need doing, maybe the battery is about to fall outta the bottom of it's box

we can all moan that yer getting ripped off but unless we know exactly what's to be done tis a bit pointless speculating

once the rear tub is off you can do all of that with reitive ease getting the rear tub off is abit annoying. taking it off will take abit of time i got mine off within an hour n half. that was taking the roof off including the sides in 1 go then getting off the side steps or sills then the supports bolts all around the seat base yer read ya haynes it actually tells ya how to do it then get two blokes once you have lifted it up a few inches disconnect the wiring or cut then reconect it with bullets incase you remove it agen. do what ever needs doing then reverse what i said as u put it back together. quite simple rearlly not hard i first did it when i was 15

Ere Sean, while yer on, tell me about the disco tranny you just did, am seriously considering it. Is it a simple bolt on bolt off jobbie, like for like, or is there need for some welding or fiddling round? Also i int been watching em on fleabag and i know what you paid for yours, but what sorta price are they going for?

YOU were lucky i had to get up half hour before i went to bed, well i say bed it were more like a shoe box int middle of road, then i had to lick t' road clean with tongue, then ah had half a handful of warm gravel for breakfast, then i did a 18hr shift down t' pit for thruppence a day then ah when i got home i got thrashed t sleep and ah were grateful

Si has got at least 1 disco box going, dont suppose he'd want much more than the price of a chippy tea for it - i've seen them go for as little as 20 quid for the entire GB and TB assembly - also seen then go for a couple of 100 as well

it really is a bolt off/on job - driver seat and panel off, middle panel off, drivers floor plate off, both props off (do yer UJ's while yer at it), transmision tunnel off, tranny brake drum and shoe mounting plate off, speedo cable off, replace the tranny box mounting bolts with 180mm M10 bolts with their heads cut off - this is so you can slide the tranny box out untill the output shaft is clear - length of wood across the seats with a short strop down and around the tranny box (if you put some twists in the strop using the plank this helps lower is by undoing the twists) - replace the output shaft seal - smear some goo on the mating faces of the new tranny box and hoist it back up onto the 5 studs that you've cut the heads off - slide it back on etc etc

you'll also have to swop the depender tranny brake cable adjuster frame onto the new disco tranny box as they are slightly different - i've done a good few of these but this one (on my own 110) is the first disco box i'd seen that didnt have all 4 M8 mounting holes pre drilled - just had to drill and tap 2 of the 4, simple task to do

might want to drain and refill the tranny box with ATF etc

highly recomended modification
