Sounds like you guys had an interesting day on the plains, and even more so getting home... Any advice to be given for those of us heading that way in a few weeks?

I was thinking of getting a rad muff and dropping it for the muddy stuff, my winch tray covers the bottom opening quite well anyway...

Either that or getting a pressure sprayer (window cleaner style) with a decent tank and washing it out before it dries...

Wash it out as soon as you can would be my advice.

I had a rad muff and still got clogged up !

I have a rad muff and didn't get clogged up. The less water there is in the water holes the greater the chances of clogging yer rad up. The more the water has been stirred by other vehicles the greater the chance of clogging yer rad up.

Using the rad muff and washing the crud out yer rad before it sets are the two things that will help most.

Well I popped me bonnet this morning and found a similar scene to WLM's Alt is only producing 7.5 to 8 volts despite copious qty's of water, wd40, switch & contact cleaner.. :( looks like a recon Alt is on the cards.

Could you take it apart and clean the rotor and brush's? nothing to lose

Had a proper look over mine today... alternators nakered! No amount of water/wd40 is working!

Where do you guys get your recon ones from? cheapest I've found is those britpart ones for £75...

carpets also started getting removed today! On the 300tdi discovery's... do you have to remove the centre console to get the carpet out? or is it just tucked into it and in need of a good tug?

My alt seems happy enough.....got a marine grade jobbie from beta marine. Usual fun and games from the starter though

Me ex is away so went and borrowed her garden hose and spent an hour flushing the rad and engine bay and has started every time since.......tomorrow morning, however may tell another story

Looks like nobody makes rad muffs for the P38...

...maybe because most people aren't stoopid enough to go driving one through deep thick mud :D

Thinking of fashioning my own out of a spare grill from a breakers... What do we think?
