As we're all (sometimes painfully) aware, Land Rovers need more...intense... maintenance compared to your run of the mill hatchback.

So a lot of us run a 2nd car, or Back Up Vehicle 😜

All my other landys have been my sole daily driver. But I picked up a lovely Disco 2 last year and would like to keep it that way. Plus when I do need to give it some attention, the pressure to get it finished by the end of the weekend would drastically reduce if I had an old snotter I could jump into Monday morning (fnarr fnarr, hyuck hyuck).

So I picked this up for £400 2 weeks ago from the car buying capital of the U.K, Sparkbrook.

Yes. I know...

Apart from the intake being more bunged than a Conservative M.P and the plastic bush on the gearstick being wafer thin, not allowing me to get 1st gear, I managed to limp it the 15miles home and get cracking.

Got to be the worst intake I've ever seen. Ex builders van, so prob sat idling half the day on fag breaks

I had about 20 litres of 5w 30 knocking about from a mate so I ran new oil thru, then drained again and changed all filters. £25 for a bosch service kit! 👌🏻

Half bonnet t cut with a mop, paints flatter than a witch's teet. Headlights got cleaned up and sealed

Shes running quite well now. 208,000 miles 1.7 cdti. I've done rear springs as one was snapped and a new rear caliper. I'm about 650 quid in now, so still a cheap van. I do need to pick some rear seats up though...

So thats my Land Rover BUV. I can throw the kids, dogs and bikes etc in and on it. We're doing the garden at the minute between rain so it'll come in handy for all sorts.

It feels really good to work on something you don't really care about. But I am starting to catch feelings 😅

So what have others got as their fall back car? Feel free to add pics and details, make it a big thread everyone can chip in on 👍🏻

We have a 2010 GT a Tdi VW golf which has thrown a few curve balls our way this year. I also cycle to work, although I find this triggers a strange reaction from some on here…
I'd cycle to work if I was a bit closer but 45mins on a mountain bike and shift patterns don't mix for me 😅 i have done it once or twice

I've got a 2004 1.9tdi passat pd snotter myself!

Recently bought the Mrs a 14 passat estate highline (very nice auto), and we had the old passat at 90k it's now done 160k and still going strong! I service it regularly, I've out new shocks on it, new discs and pads all round (fronts twice now) and the drivers side window regulator. That's it! Only spent 2k on her to buy, so cheap as chips, was going to flog it but my 90 has been my daily for 9 1/2 years now, and she's 25 years old, so will be nice to go a bit easier on her, and I wouldn't be able to buy as good a car for the 1500 quid I'd get for it, so made sense to keep it!
I mainly just do contract climbing now, so I can throw climbing gear and saws in and she returns 50mpg , more on long journeys! If I need the landy I use it, but will be nice keeping her of the salty roads when not needed! 😊

Our last Tdi golf had 243k on it when we sold it. It smoked like an old tart but was bought by a bloke who was going to use it for a charity challenge to Africa…
