I feel I have now joined the ranks of the real P38 owners club!
Here goes, been away for 3 weeks, came back and the batteries flat.
Took it out charged it, and followed the instructions from the forum, re sync the key fob, followed the universal EKA code 1515 after locking four times.
And nothing.
Iv rang my local dealership who want to see proof of ownership and 20 quid to give me the code.
Rang again and asked if a jap import would be a problem and guess what, they have no code listed for my Rangy!
Only help they could offer was to ring Japan and hope someone speaks English.
Please tell me theres someone out there who can help?

Paul.

Try another dealer, or Land Rover themselves possibly. Also keep trying with the EKA as its quite easy to get the sequence wrong, though imagine you have tried it several times already... Where did you get the 1515 code from?

I take it you have an immobilised car at the moment?

Tried it so many times now you wouldn't believe.
Got the code off here and many other ites on the net, been talking to gav who has been a star.
Just ringing Derbyshire LandRover waiting for a call back now.
Will let you all know the outcome.

Paul.

hi paul ring ian on 01516453342 see what he thinks if he wants money pm me and i will go and pay it you can send me it. j

Just got off the phone with stratons Derbyshire, wouldn't give me the info over the phone, which I expected. Just asked them to confirm that they had an EKA on the system, and guess what, nothing listed on the system.
What to do now? there has to be a way, cant just buy a new range every time the battery dies.
Been told 300 quid for a ecu reset by my local garage? whats everyones thoughts on that little bomb shell?

And J many thanks for the offer!

Paul.

paul you welcome i know ian is a long way from you but he very helpfull pulled me out of the crap a few times he is a r/r lover. j

I dont think the Jap spec market cars use the EKA functions in the BECM,what does the message display say on the dash when you try to start it ?

J, just rang Ian, and he said it doesn't make sence the dealerships not having the EKA code, and asked me to ring him back Monday to see what he can do!
So watch this space.

Paul.

8, the message reads eingine disabled press remote or enter key code?
The dealership have no EKA code on their system, so looks like Im fooked!
Paul.

I have had my P38 dse 5 years and had the battery off and on a number of times and had it off 3 days when i was working on the vehicle and never needed the EKA code, juust reset the sun roof and windows, am i lucky or have i the Range Rover from lady luck.
I have seen a way round this EKA problem somewhere, i will do my best to find it.

Just spoken to a mate who works for a indepenent Land Rover workshop and he said they must have a EKA code for it, some dealers will give you this information if you fax a copy the service history but a tip he just told me said remove the drivers door trim and spray the latch with switch cleaner, or remove the latch and do it would be better, they had a 1999 P38 in their workshop and it would not except the correct code, 3 or 4 hours were spent on this vehicle, removed drivers latch and cleaned it up and code excepted straigh away, also if the outside door handle is sticky it causes EKA problems.
Shot in the dark but its a cheap one.

Many thanks people, will look at the locking mech soon as it stops raining, been given loads of ops for re programming now so its all looking better.
Will keep updating the thread, hope it helps someone else in the future.
Also changing the RF receiver as soon as this is sorted, heard that could make all the difference in the future?

Paul.

Thought I'd give the RAC a shot, the technical department said try the same things that everyone on here had sayed to try!
But with a twist landover said resync the key buy inserting the key in the lock then turn the key to the lock position and press the unlock button, then turn key to the unlock position then press the lock button, but the RAC said turn the key to the lock position and press the lock button, does anybody know how its really done? lol
Well neadless to say none of it worked, there diagnostic equipment couldn't access the becm, does anyone in the Leicestershire area have a Rovcom system and would like a free pub lunch with beer to come and see if they can give me my EKA code?

Paul.

the proper sequence on pre 99 cars is to open the door with the key and press a button within 30 seconds hence the putting the key in and pressing the button at the same time!

there is no need on post 99 vehicles as it resyncs each time you put the key in the ignition!

the key will not sync until the eka has been entered or in your case the becm has been re sync'd with the security info!

didnt you get any joy from kev100 and the other chap?

Morning Gav, loads of joy with the the offer to reset my becm, just trying every other avenue before i satrt taking out the driver seat.
Do you know anyone with testbook or rovcom local to me? see if they can pull the EKA code out!

Paul.

How we do it is insert the key into the door lock, press the lock button, turn key to lock still holding the lock button in wait 3 seconds and turn key back and remove key still holding in the button, then relaese button

well thats the BECM out, took me about 40mins and was much easier then i expected, just had to run down to halfolds for a T45 star socket so I could remove the seat.
Been told its an original part, but it could of had work done to it before, cos of the numerous felt pen marks on the case?
Now its boxed up and ready for the post office tomorrow morning, watch this space for when its fitted back in.
