have also discoverd that the driver door actuator (PRC4831) is the same part on both variants https://www.ebay.com/itm/275224756004 so is it not just a simple case of isolating the ECU and wire the driver door actuator as shown for the non alarmed system?
Yes that's the ideea and that's why i said that you need skills cos it will be hard to identify the wires where they split between the doors without a more detailed diagram which shows the connector views and wire colours too and i couldnt find one for 200 tdi

The Disco has been with a local sparky company that my mechanic deals with. Apparently it wasn't the ECU but some other wiring problem and it's all functioning now. Not sure what the details are but I will let you know as soon as I do. It's got its ITV test tomorrow so hope to have it back for Friday.

That did'nt last long. Mechanic reported central locking had stopped working again later on Wednesday night. Got the ITV done Thursday and it's now back home. Have ordered an aftermarket system to get the central locking back.

Long shot but on my 96 300tdi my wife accidentally kicked the top of the footwell where a crash sensor is located, this turned the hazards on and it would not start with the key, I managed to hot wire the starter relay to get it going and pulled the fuse to stop the hazards. After getting home and reading the owners manual I was able to reset the crash sensor using the key (cant recall the exact key sequence).

The inertia “crash” sensor thats is built into the security ECU only unlocks the doors, if locked, and activates the hazard lights, has no relationship with the starting of the engine,
The procedure to to reset if been triggered is stop and turn the starter switch off and on again… simples.

If you have to do anything else to reset the inertia sensor plus if you have to “hot wire” a starter relay, then u have issues elsewhere. :(

Yes, saw that when I was researching my problem. The system on the 300 is different to my 200. It does allegedly have a motion sensor but built into the alarm ECU. Have had that out and no way to tell if it’s serviceable or not. The driver door key reset does nothing so guess that's a 300 TDI thing also. Now waiting for the delivery of an aftermarket keyless central locking system. Unfortunately that will leave me without an alarm but given it’s age I’m not that bothered. Have checked the existing actuator cabling to all 5 doors and that seems fine so hopefully the new syatem will be a relatively simple fit.

Hi porky, our cars might be more similar than one would expect, mine has a mechanical injector pump, no EGR, but has got ABS (dammit) and SRS (dammit) and IF it has got an ecu it has not given me trouble yet and I don’t know where it is. It might have a DDS unit to disable the engine via the immobiliser I am not sure. A while back I had to put a new wire in to the fuel solenoid (from the fuse box) as the harness had a break somewhere. I also hid the fob and disconnected the siren to prevent any more alarm issues.
My manual makes no reference to the engine being cut due to the inertia sensor (as per prior post) but thats what happened, it just cut out as I was driving along. I do (years later) still have an occasional issue with it clicking and not starting but wobbling the auto gear lever usually sorts that out, maybe that has something to do with the cutting out.
Is the inertia reset done via the driver door or ignition lock, my feeling is ignition lock.

Supposed to be but not on my 200TDI, apparently. No mention of it anywhere in the handbook that I got from new either so think that was on later models (1994 onwards).
