hello

help please td4 manual 54 reg

last year i had a gear change issue when i replaced my master cylinder that when trying to engaged 1st it would kick slightly never got this issue resolved but had about 15 months before my slave gave up, earlier this week i replaced the slave and clutch (what a pain in the rain and on my back).

i have bled all the fluid out so no air in there as it was coming out clear and i used that much fluid to flush it.

now from what i can remember from when it drove before both 1st and 2nd are a bit stiff to engage? they do go into gear but its not a smooth movement, do these suffer with linkage issues?? cars done about 76000 miles and hows best way to tell if it is a linkage issue??

cheers

dont worry it will get better in time mine was stiff to get into gesr but after a couple of weeks it was ok
cheers for the reply, how long ago since you did yours, do you think it will cause any issues in the long run or is just an issue with freelanders never had it on other cars.

just was thinking could i have overfilled the box ????

took it out on longer drive after about 5 miles it was hard in all gears then stop for short while after another 5 miles and about 5 mins rest then went off again and was easier then after about 3 miles started getting stuffer to change gears.
parked up for few hrs and went out again stiff to start then got easier then harder

cant work this out, no grinding or biting when going into gears just really stiff

cheers

is it still stiff with engine not running ,i have know a few synchro issues ,over filling box wouldnt have that effect it would just be forced out of wherever it could

cheers for the reply

no its goes in gears of when not running, the over fill issue came to mind when someone worked with years ago over filled engine oil on a merc van, within few hundred miles he buggered the engine as the oil expanded and it had no where to go, was thinking the same thing with the gear box

hello

yes pedal bite is low just off floor i bleed it and must of used 1/2 L to flush it all through to make sure the system was clear and had no sign of air in the bleed tube, was thinking do you think it could be master cylinder?/ this was changed about 12 months ago and its not leaking??

will bleed again tomorrow and try that, might also remove gear box refill plug and see how much comes out, from what i understand it should just dribble out so if it pours out i'll know
it was to much lol

cheers

its diferent with an engine as you have pistons moving up and down very fast ,gears spinning in over full box would lead to oil been forced out

nothing should be overfilled it can cause damage esecially to a engin where you have comression on say that the gearbox should not be a too big a problem but just let a bit out but this will not be what wrong with your gear change my wife's car suffered "freelander 1800 1998 " until she had a new "the second one" system and gear changes were a dream but while i did the new system i greased the links from under the car .hope this helps

just seems strange that it gets stiffer when warm , will try bleeding it again tomorrow but i dont think its that unless the slave was faulty

bled the clutch again and still the same, i have noticed if im sitting at lights or junction trying to engage 1st if i double clutch it it will go in smoother

any other ideas????

cheers

hello

still having same issue i have removed some oil as when i opened the refill plug it rushed out so i did it until it was just dripping out. i have changed the master again and bleed it twice still the same, when i bleed it the fluid was cloudy with a white marble effect in it if that makes sense or give anyone any idea??

cheers

if it only happend after changing master cylinder and your sure all air is out, i would think faulty master cylinder,

hello

this is second master i have changed and both doing the same, was thinking has anyone had an issue the the pedal bending of anything to do with the pedal itself

cheers

You say it's better when you double clutch, or pump it. Could there still be air in there somewhere? I'm not sure if there's a bend in the system or somewhere to trap air.

What about the flexible hose expanding too much if it's had diesel on it or contaminated in some way?

Is the pedal going all the way to the floor? There are no mats or carpet in the way?

Is your reservoir breather clear? Perhaps if it's blocked you would pull air past the master cyl rubber on the return stroke or suck the flexihose inwards. Both of these would give you only a part-stroke after a while. Try driving with a flexible cover over the res to see what happens.
