Sorry for my bad english,
I have a problem with my Freelander 2 (138000 km).
Every morning is impossible to start in first and second gear or in reverse... I must to engage the third gear just for a moment and then I can engage the first gear or reverse normally.
With my mechanic we changed the old fluid with new correct oil and the level is correct too, but the problem persits.
It's perfect when warm... the problem occured only when cold.

It's possible it's an issue with the concentric, but it's an unusual fault.
Just a thought. Is there evidence of oil leaking between the gearbox and block? If the rear crank seal is leaking, it's possible oil has contaminated the clutch, causing grabbing.

Ok... but why, in this case, the problem occured only when the engine is cold?

Do you have to push the stick to the left for reverse on an F2?

Could be a linkage issue. Dunno what can be examined, taken apart, lubed that's external to the gearbox.
No. There is just a detent spring to push against to select reverse.

From memory, there's a TSB for sticking selector cables. Maybe there's some binding in one of the cables when cold.
Try lubricating the cables on top of the gearbox with silicone spray, while a helper moves the gear stick through all gears.

Yesterday evening I removed the airbox filter and I lubricated both cable... but this morning the problem still happens... uff

Today I discovered the way to avoid the problem:
1- I start the engine and I wait thirty seconds;
2- Down the clutch;
3- Engage the third gear:
4- Up the clutch very slowly... just to get moving the Freelander 2 a few centimeters;
5- Still down the clutch;
6- Now, still moving slightly, I can engage all gears without any problems...

Interesting work around.
Bizarrely my clutch did something strange today. After parking at Screwfix, the gears were very stiff to engage. I thought this strange, then for some reason while selecting all the gears in sequence, I took my foot off the clutch when the lever was still in first. The car jumped forward and the engine stalled with a bang. On restarting, all the gears were selecting smoothly again. Odd.

Ops... very odd...
