Gearbox selector issue

Good evening all, i have an issue with the selector stick on my 2000 V8 autobox, when the car is cold on first start up it is smooth and easy to select, but when the car is hot and after running for a while the shift is tight and stiff, it selects OK but very stiff, is this an issue with the gearbox selector on the gear box or the cable to it.?

I'd check the cable underneath hasn't rubbed against the exhaust

As above ^^^^^^^, likely to be the selector cable.
