well, as most of you know, i bought a dog of a freelander last july (stupid i know) but i hate to admit the fact that when i took it off roading a few weekends ago it turned out to be pretty damned impressive!

after months of argueing with the garage over a new gearbox, i decided to let it be repossesed as its of no use to me, i then fell totally in love off road and want to keep it! lol

well, as luck would have it, the finance company have agreed to freeze payments on it until the garage have repaired it, to their cost not mine, and as the garage are ignoring any legal requests it will be a while so i will enjoy my off road fun in it until then and except the fact i cannot do many miles in it until fixed, but at least its not costing me anything to do so!!!
 
Ok guys a quick update on the gaylander! Um er its still fooked!

Myself and boomer drained the gearbox today, To start with it was quite overfilled, not by like 200ml but by a lot! The ****e that came out was dark in color very similar to wvo! And smelt like burnt printed curcuit board!!!!! We refilled with new atf to the specified level! Now it seems to go forwards quite well and change gear, However it will not reverse under its own steam whatsoever! it is trying but i can push it forwards whilst boomer is trying to reverse with some revs might i add!! I think its now game over for the lil hippo!!!
 
Its an auto, But having sat reading until 1 last nite, im thinking it is now a cumulative problem, Which was probably just an electronic issue, But am now thinking that the peeps that had it in the garage have made it worse! And all we have done is to flush the crap out of it! But me and boomers had it with it, speedwaybabe has had it with it! I think its gonna be a greatfull snatchback now! Its a lemon!!

on the jatco auto is a bolt next to the refill plug, which is commonly removed by mistake. Once this bolt is removed, one of the brake bands falls off inside the gearbox, and this prevents you from getting reverse, while all other gears work fine.

only solution is to remove the box and strip it down to replace the bolt and re-assemble the brake band.

There is a really good write up on the Ashcroft website, and there is a link to it somewhere on this forum.

Yes was aware of this ourselves, But two independant garages have had a go at fixing it! So its anyones guess! And its now wash ya hands time, the garage that sold it are denying responcibility but im sure with a bit of time and pushing (xcuse pun) it will get sorted by the finance company, who have stated that payments are frozen until such time its repaired! I think its called a waiting game........................

'tis a bit of a fooker now a couple of garages have had a go, no way of knowing if that bolt's been out or not. only way now is a gearbox and engine out job, and then it might still be fooked if it was not that at fault.

don't like admitting defeat, but sounds like the finance companies problem anyway.
