Right i thought that instead of keep starting topics i'll put it all in one place to save space, sorry if it's in the wrong area

Right then so here it is a 1995 Discovery a 2.5 300TDi engine but unforutnatly it has a blown turbo and the odd patch of rust. only cost £250 tho


So out with the old turbo


and in with the replacement £83.50 from ebay

It also has an Performance intercooler and i've removed the EGR (blanking plate £7.44 From ebay) and have put a De-cat pipe (£26.95 From ebay)

onto it along with a ITG Foam air filter.

Because i have a performance intercooler on the disco the Pressure the turbo pumps out is lower when it reaches the valves so i've drilled and tapped the intake manifold so i can take a vacuume hose from the manifold and plug it into the waste gate so that the wastegate will get it's reading from the manifold instead of the turbo so the turbo will keep boosting untill it reads i think 1 Bar at the manifold




i had to drill and tap my own hole as i couldnt find an adaptor to fit the hole that was already there, i got the adaptor from Here i got the 5mm to 1/8BSP one, it is a bit small as the vaccume hose the turbo uses is 6.5mm but i brought some 5mm silicone pipe from there and that fits over the 6.5mm coupling on the wastegate

Opinions good or bad are welcome

why didnt you leave everyfing on it after replaceing the turbo , just to see if it was only that , do you know any history of the vehicle ie what the last owner said , i hope he didnt try and drive it in that condition or it wont be such a cheap bargain not critizising you looks alright to me ....

wish my workshop was as tidy as your's

He didn't drive it much apparently he thought it was the H/G that had gone as it was underpowered and smokey so he replaced that and it still didnt fix it so it was left on his front lawn for a couple of months untill a friend of mine spotted it and i took the other bits off as i'd been waiting for ages for the replacement turbo and other parts form land rover so i kept myself busy

it isn't my workshop just my mums kitchen as i use the garage that goes with their house it just hasnt got any electrics so i have to goto the house for the power

looks a good job to me bud,
don't wait till june give it to me


tell ya wot you have mine that will give you somthing todo till june,

i,m guessing a garage changed the h/g then !!!
if the turbo had gone why didnt they spot that !!!

nah he did the H/G himself with a mechanically minded friend i think

Got the light bar on today

i hope you tilt them up a bit before you use em

lol yeah i'll get them all lined up one night after i've got it running

well everything engine wise is pretty much back together now somehow 2 bolts for the intake have vanished somewhere
gonna bleed the coolent through tomorrow and see if i can get the bolts for the mani and then i can move it again


anyone know what this pipe is for? its the little black one that is hooked over the injector line

and also can this be taken apart and cleaned? if not i'll just put a catch tank in for the oil

looks like a breather pipe to me, gear box, or transfer box poss

trace it back, could be an axle breather

there are two of them that go behind the engine towards the gearbox, i just assumed that gearbox breathers were an aftermarket thing :biggrin1:

well i got it shifted today and it runs quite well have a bit of a problem where i can't get the filler cap off of the thermostat housing but i suppose i'll hafta drill that out and it looks like i'm going to have to replace the injection pump as it leaks quite a bit http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f49/leaky-fuel-pump-96906.html

What filler cap on the thermostat housing?? There isn't one!!

does he mean the plastic plug, as fitted to 300TDis?
