Hi all

Can anyone tell me where I can get hold of the items that should be included in a 72,000 mile service for our Disco II? It is an '03 Metropolis TD5 Automatic.

We have had a few quotes, which range from £560 from a main dealer to £250 from a small local firm. Trouble is, I think that the 72,000m is a 'biggy' and £250 sounds a bit cheap!

The low quote was from Jim Hallam's in Rushton Spencer, Staffs. Anyone any experience with them?

LRC in Congleton (our local independent) want £520. I have heard good things about them, but for £40 difference, why bother going to an indy when the main dealer is so close on price?

Your help and thoughts are appreciated.

Bear in mind that a LR dealer will charge something like £100+ per hour for labour !!

Are you capable of doing yourself ??

If not there's a guy on E-Bay offers a mobile service, around the £150 mark, and I've heard good reports about him !!!

I do all my own, and the most expensive service is around £100 in parts etc.

By way of example, LR want £99 + VAT for an oil change, I do it for about £40 and 1 hour on a Sat morning . . it's rally THAT easy !!

Thanks Steve

To be honest I probably could do it all myself, but having spent many years doing all my own maintenance on the drive in all weather I sort of thought I had moved on a bit now I had hit the big four-o!:D

Problem is I don't know what is in a 72,000 mile service on our car (this being our first LR). Does a simple Haynes manual cover the LR service schedule? I have heard something about a RAVE CD, is that what I need to get my hands on? If so, where do I get one? LR dealer I assume?

The other thing is that it has a full service history at the moment and if I do it myself then bang goes that! (Despite the fact that I would probably take more care than a dealer!!!).

On the other points I thought that LRC (Indy) should be much cheaper than a main dealer and am surprised that they are not. Anyone care to comment? £100+ per hour seems a bit steep to say the least!!

I know what you mean about moving 'on' . . but, I'm rapidly approaching the big FIVE 0 . . .  . . . . and I'm still doing all my own, two reasons

1, I begrudge paying vast amounts of hard earned cash to a main 'stealer'
2, I actually enjoy it, AND . . more importantly I KNOW it's been done with care and attention to detail !! (That is actually 3 reasons :

Re the above service schedule - I can't see any difference with the one I have

The Haynes book (red cover for 98 on Diesel models) is excellent and covers all the service requirements (and more) :)

The Rave CD, is available as a FREE download from:-

Thanks for your help guys, I have managed to download the RAVE and it has everything in it! Very useful.

I have also just received an email back from Jason Partridge who advertises mobile LR servicing on Ebay as pointed out by another poster. Is this the correct guy? Anyone have any feedback? He is quoting £320 using genuine LR parts, which seems very reasonable.

Thanks once again.

I have just joined the community as I had a shock at the cost of the 72000 mile service. The advice through your thread was very helpful, I have asked for a quote from the chap off ebay. Many thanks
