Very good afternoon All
I have now just got my self a D2 TD5 Auto nice, But i went into town and parked up, Went and did what i needed to do. Got to my TD5 jumped in turned the key and:-
All dash lights came on then went off (3 sec) turned key to start and nothing.
Looked at the dash again and swore the M and S lights flashing.

Now when i started her up to go to town all was good she started great and drove great. Looking in the book all it says is Gear box electrical fault. Can some one please help as it is now stuck in the car park.

Thanks
Shaun.

first suspect is low battery, try to jump start it from a powerfull one then if it starts check the charging, if it's not that you'll need to plug in a tester

Ok thanks mate but when i turn the key the lights do not dull it looks like the gear box fault is stopping it from turning the starting motor.

aaaaa... so it's not cranking at all, check the small lucar connector on the starter solenoid to not be loosened, swap relays R2 with R3 in engine bay, give a tug to the starter with a hammer

Ok mate will do. Right back to the car park again lol thanks mate laters

if no joy it means that might be some problem with the starter inhibitor circuit and that's bad, move the selector through all the gears and try then, you can check the round plug which connects to the gearbox switch to not have corrosion in it cos the aircon drain is dripping on it...if still no efect then it seems the XYZ switch is gone

Landy zone comes to the rescue again But a big thanks to you mate......It was the starter motor one hit from a hammer and bingo Started 1st turn of the key. So look like i will be playing with the motor later lol.
Again thanks mate

Oh dear, what would you have done before Landy Zone or even the Internet? like some of us :)
Yeah great now lol. I did have a P38 RR and this site help a lot, Got ried of that and now back to a disco ok a TD5 after having a 300 V8 the TD5 is how LR should have made them in the 1st place.....
All the best all

those are only solenoid repair kits not efficient for this kind of fault when the loud click of the solenoid is not audible... when the starter reacts to a tug the problem is usually internal at the brushes, though in case of a DIY approach it's good to fit a lkit like that too jus to be ruled out
