Hello! Help much appreciated on this one, I have done lots of research online with no answer to my question so thought I’d make a post, apologies if this is a repeat, I must have missed it.
I’ve had an issue with my auto box on my D2 on a 2001 reg. So bought another box which had been reconditioned that was removed from a truck being broken.

The chap gave me everything with it, Transfer box, shifter, ecu, parking brake drum, levers, everything.

Upon swapping box, all seemed to be well, now have drive and reverse as hoped, HOWEVER, it will only remain in 1st gear it will not shift up. So I called the chap I got box from and he said that, if the box was replaced and the garage hadn’t fitted the ecu he provided with the box that came from the original doner car it won’t work, ecu and box he said go together, my cars auto transmission control module (ecu) won’t work with the new gearbox from another truck.

Firstly, is this correct?

And secondly, if so, is there any way I can reprogram the original TCU that is in my truck to cater for the new gearbox from the doner truck? Using auto logic, Hawkeye or any other such diagnostic tool? Reason being, is the ecu the chap gave me with doner gearbox is infact an ACE/ABS ECU. Tried to get in contact with the guy but now goes straight to answer machine :(

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi, unfortunately seems that you was scammed and got a faulty gearbox cos that seller is bullsh*tting you
1. The D2's TCU if it's not faulty should work with any ZF4HP22 faultless gearbox even though a good move is to reset addaptive values once the box or TCU was swapped but this is a kind of "fine tuning" not vital as it will addapt itself in time.
2. there is no such thing as ACE/ABS ECU, it can be one or the other as they are different parts, the TCU should look like this

Hello,

Yeah I’m pretty sure there is an ACE ecu as the exact unit I have is this unit below and same part number. Please correct if this is wrong.

However your comment upon the TCU working with any ZF4 box is good to know, ish, as now, as you quite rightly pointed out, may mean the box is faulty annoyingly.

Next question is then, after looking at possible reasons for no shifting, 1st gear only, stuck governor? Or lack of correct level fluid? (Which I know is ok)

So just to clarify, any Z4HP22 gearbox should work with any non faulty Transmission Control
unit?

Thanks again for your reply sierrafery!

Yes it should, there is no programming option other than the "reset addaptive values"... as about why it's working only in 1'st i have no ideea but afaik the D2 box has no governor that's on the D1 which has no electronic management but i'm no expert in mechanical stuff

Ok great, thank you for the info so far. If anyone else could shed some light on possible stuck in 1st gear that’d be great. My next try is a replacement autobox controller module I think.

I have heard that if you put it in low range and press the button (M&S) you should then be able to manually select all gears using the stick.
Maybe worth doing to see if you get any control at all?
