On my Defender I at present have the following security measures installed: Meck Lock; electrical cut-out (in the form of a battery isolator switch); full metal jacket; heavy chain and padlock between floor and steering wheel.

With the exception of the chain and possibly the FMJ (depending on lighting conditions), these are not visible deterrents. Thus I am thinking of adding something very visible, i.e. a steering wheel lock.

I know that steering wheel locks are mostly (or perhaps entirely) no obstacle to the determined thief (for example, it has been said on this forum, I think, that the Disc Lock can be undone in 15 seconds). Nonetheless, I think a steering wheel lock would be worth having as a first line of defence (as far as protection inside the vehicle goes). Which is the strongest / best/ most secure sreering wheel lock? Please bear in mind that it has to be one that the chain and padlock won’t get in the way of.

Autolock 2000. It wont fit on a standard defender steering wheel though.

They are a right sod to get off cos the plastic bridge joining the locking pins shears if it is attacked. There is nothing left to get onto then. I can get most steering locks off between 30 secs and 10 mins. The quickest I have done one of these yet is 15 mins.;) If the vehicle is trailered away rather than driven the steering wheel can still be turned with one of these fitted though.

fookin hell 5 minutes!thats a hundred quid down the jon then!
wish they'd 'urry up and nick it...i want a fookin lwb!

That is a VERY LARGE persuasion tool mind. Not a poxy little Heffs type hammer.

The disclock is the one I dread having to remove. The risk of slipping and smacking the windscreen with a hammer is pretty high. :p

I did remove one wiv my angle grinder once. Never again. I used all mine and my colleagues jackets up protecting the glass and interior from the sparks. I ended up setting light to one of my colleagues jackets. (he wasn't wearing it):D :D :D .

A windscreen is definately cheaper than torching the car.:p
