Security advice on a 2022 Defender 13/02/24

Hi
I’m picking up my first defender the weekend and wanted to check if anyone has a steering wheel lock on theirs ? It’s a 2022 110 so not sure to go for a medium or large in Disclock?

Just hide the key, the new OTA update from Land Rover to prevent the key signals is an improvement, but just put your key in a bag that blocks the signal.

I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would want to steal a Land Rover.

Money pure and simple

As we are talking about the new plastic ones (we really need to banish them to their own forum section so they don't contaminate the proper defender discussions) it is more than just stopping the whole vehicle being stolen you need to worry about. just like the proper ones they are very easy to steal parts from rather than taking the whole vehicle. A friend has just had the spare wheel and his headlights stolen. I do not know of any security devices but more making you aware you can do all you want to stop them stealing the vehicle but you could still come back to parts missing. A bit like when the puma first came out people would come back to no doors and bonnet!

Yeah it’s the new plastic Defender I’m referring to. I was after some general advice regarding the disc-lock and any other tips like the faraday case (which some people gave without the snobbery of this not being a traditional Defender). The point about parts being taken is the same for all cars, especially Fiesta’s at the moment so I guess you take your chances on the type of plastic car you buy.

Turn off your comfort access in the settings menu, no codes to scan so no faraday pouch required. Land Rover has just upgraded the security on the defenders with a software upgrade.

I feel you have misunderstood my "snobbery" as "snobbery" rather than the playful jibe about buying the wrong defender. It is no different to if you were to venture into the series section of the forum where anyone with a vehicle that is not on cart springs (i also have a series 3 so am allowed to say that) opens themselves up to ridicule for owning the wrong land rover. Heaven forbid you look in the freelander section full of hairdressers with vehicles whose doors fall of when they get wet! (Cue @Hippo's staunch defence of this poor excuse of a green oval! )

The disc lock is just a case of buying the correct size for the diameter of your steering wheel. I have one for my proper defender. However I do not know how thick the new electric switch filled steering wheels are and if it will fit that way. I also do not know how fragile or protruding all of the modern switch gear is on the wheel but bear in mind a disc lock is an unforgiving chunk of metal that is likely to damage fragile plastic parts. there is also some modifications you can do to a disc lock to make it more secure by welding some additional plates tot he back of it to enclose the rear of the wheel as well. this prevents someone leaving the lock in place and just turning the wheel inside of it.

@Munks11 the 'new' Defender isn't really a Defender.
It's more akin to a computer operated/monitored/activated/controlled poor mans Discovery.

The Defender TD5 is an electronic nightmare which only got worse as the marque morphed.
You only have to look at the number of posts that are answered with a 'you need a Nanocom or the Britpart equivalent to diagnose that' ...
The TD5 has an ECU (one) you have 85 (eighty five).

Obviously your model won't have the tin worm yet (hopefully) and the wires won't be old and decaying and it doesn't leak and the heater will work. Hopefully everything works and will continue to do so.

Nowt wrong wiv Freelanders. LR created design history when the Freelander came out. It set the standard for all LR priducts built after it. Independent susoension. Comfortable seats. The list goes on. The OP has bought the finking mans tratter rather than the old biscuit tin type. Betterer known as a big Freelander.
