no risk if hand brakes on it just stops people because someone tried to pinch mine in middle of night and heard it start up so rushed outside but because transfer box was in netrual thye tried to put it in gear and go but it wouldnt because of this

interestingly thoug.. and I don't wanna bring up the workings of the diffs too much cos they are in another fred.. but with the transmission brake surely when the transfer box is in neutral the brake is only acting on one wheel... and so stealing it would be a doddle.. just stick a rope on it and tow it away...
 
mjltigger, if the Tbox is in neutral, the handbrake acts only on the rear prop, so if one wheel were in slippy stuff you could tow it. Or it might sort of bounce from one wheel to t'other.

Not far, obviously. But you were right in your initial premise.
 
if you had a petrol engine the best anti theft device is a simple wire from the centre of the distribrator cap to a switch on the dashboard, then from the switch to earth. when you leave the landy put the switch on, all the current goes to earth, no way can you start it.

With more and more of the barstewards nicking landies, there's few things to stop someone just hoisting onto a flatbed.

All you can do is; imobiliser, cut off, steering wheel clamp, brake/clutch thingy, smar****er and anything else you can do.

And hope!?
