AT Tyres and Snow

Got a disco 1 with all terrains on, are these any good in the snow / ice?

Obviously not booting it in 1st gear, be making good use of low range / diff lock in higher gears.

Just worried about getting stuck like I have every year in my 2wd road cars!

Someone please put my mind at rest!!

I usually help all the neighbors out by digging their cars out of the snow, this year I was hoping to help them by hooking my tow rope and dragging them out!

1st mention of snow and everyone thinks the uk is gonna be like the alps

i had bf goodrich at on my disco and it went everywhere i pointed it.
the only point it would was a steep cobbled road, but that was because it was a hard left turn and the heavy duty springs didnt give me axle articulation causing the wheels two opposite wheels to spin. all in all good snow tyres for me.

low range is cack in the snow i found last year, to much grunt. high range and setting off in second with just the clutch worked for me

ok then

seriously no tyres will help you on ice tbh but a good at or mt will help a lot.

every fwd car i've had hasn't had a problem in the snow but all the rwd have been a fookin nightmare

read the owners manual, you wont need low range unless you are belly deep in mud or pulling 5 ton. 4x4 is not a cure for common sense and safe driving habits

Cool, I only acquired the Disco a month ago, so primarily wanted to know if AT were tosh in the snow as I am looking at getting new tyres anyway, and would have bought them earlier if this happened to be the case.

I have general Grabber AT,s on my 4x4 and they havent let me down yet. Dont fall into the trap of thinking 4x4's are invincible. It is mainly down to driving style - 3 tons loose on ice is not a fun experience .

Of course, I feel a bit less nervous now hearing that a few of you have been fine on ATs, but yes I know I won't stand a chance at the top of a steep icy hill! :rolly:

what, exactly do yu mean by that?

idiots driving a 60 on ice n snow, cos " I am in a 4x4" is as stupid as a rangie sport driver on low profiles driving a mud bath - "coz its a 4x4"
