Anyone had any luck with window replacement cables?

I bought a kit from ebay a couple of weeks back for my front window. Fitting was straightforward and it worked fine for a while then started making strange crunching noises. On removal, one of the cables has a loose strand that has snapped and got caught in the inner cable sleeve.

I cannot see anything wrong with the way I fitted them - anyone had success with these replacement kits or are they a waste of time

probably just unlucky with the quality of the cable.
