I have been reading through old threads on egr removal and blanking kits, and the sound very good. But they all seemed to be about disco's ! will i get the same results on my 1995 defender and how do i do it ? can i just put the blanking plate on and not remove anything and not replace any hoses ? :)

I just got a kit which is a blanking plate, gasket and longer bolts. You just put the plate in and it stops up the hole which = no more egr and the mot man prob wont spot it either.

If the EGR is working you will not get any improvement in performance by removing it.
If it's stuck open then you will get excessive smoke and be down on power.
If it's working properly you can disable it by pulling off the small vacuum pipe.

hi my egr valve when ive looked at it today has a gasket then a plate then a gasket then the valve all this fastens to the manifold,is this right or has someone already put a blanking plate on it.i thought it would be a gasket then valve.
thanks

well done my egr valve finally,i cant say theres any improvement at all power wise, time will tell for the fuel consumption, what else can i do to get a bit more pulling power without delving too far or causing damage to my engine.its been decated already.

You dont have to spend a lot of money to get a blanking plate. Just cut up a bean tin lid and slide it between the EGR valve piping and the manifold. Most peeps wont even see it once its in place. It wont last as long as a 5mm steel plate but bean tins are cheap and plentiful so if it burns through every three years or so just put another one in. Done loads of them like this on various vehicles with no probs.
