£130 lift kit on Ebay

£130 for an AL SERVICES 40mm lift (1.57 inches), what do you think?

Price looks good. But I supposed the important questions are

A/ will you be able to lift the doors high enough to tape em back on if they get wet??

And

B/ will it affect the burn rate of ya gaylander.

i'd just get pikey to cut up some drain covers and drill em out fer you.....i wouldnt fit it to any car

the more air you can get underneath to feed the flames the better

I can envisage serious camber problems on the front axels, as I don`t think there is any provision for this adjustment?

The higher the front goes the more positive the camber is going to get.

The rears can be adjusted for camber, so should be ok.

I guess it's the old classic of we get what we pay for, and at £130 it won't be much.
Shame, as it looked inviting.

I`m not saying there crap!!! but things like wheel alignment issues and extra strain on the driveshafts have to be taken into account. If you can adjust the fronts for camber this will be a plus.

Also will the extra height affect the drive shafts, as they will be working at a different angle other than the specified factory spec.

Will the ARB be ok with the added height.

Would be good to hear from someone who has lifted a F1, and any problems encounted.

Maybe I should ask the seller on ebay.????


P.S. just noticed in your 1st post that the Bearmach kit has camber pins, so maybe camber is not a problem with this kit, I wonder if the other ebay kit has these.

From what i can see in the first picture, they're quite similar to the ones bearmach produces i think.

I've also heard of someone having to shave the bearmach produced ones down as they didn't sit flush. Might have been on here that i heard it, can't remember. So they might not all be totally perfect.

I'd definitely get the camber correction pins though, i've seen them available on their own on one site. I'm aiming for slightly negative camber when I fit eventually buy and fit mine to try and get back some of the handling lost when lifting.

I'm glad you posted this link, i'll be buying the kit next week from where ever i can find it cheapest with the best quality. The expensive bearmach ones might not always be the best quality remember. so it looks like i might give these a try.

Nice one freebiker, would be great if you get on with them ok. The company's website link from Ebay certainly looks like they know what they're doing.

I think the only reason i may not get on with them is if my driveshafts suddenly need replacing, as mine is nearing 80,000 miles. But even then, it's not too much of a problem, and i couldn't see these spacers having any other problems as long as they're put together solid.

Payday tuesday so i'll let you know when ordered and i'll try and keep you informed about the fitting etc.

I can see myself maybe having to take it to a garage after i'd fitted everything to at least have the camber set on a computer and the tracking etc done.

After doing a bit more research on these lift kits, I came across the following link:

Also after doing a little more reading on the camber correction, i've decided that the pins won't be enough for the camber i want, as i've read the pins only reduce positive camber by 3 degrees. I've also read that camber is near impossible to set with MacPherson struts, unless you modify them some way.

You can get camber plates which fit on top of the strut, just like the spacers and allow the strut top to slide left/right but i doubt these are available for the freelander.

One options i've thought of is drilling the holes larger on the bottom of the strut so the top of the hub can go inwards more. This will allow adjustment on the hub/strut contact.

Ideally i want to get this perfect as i do drive her hard on road sometimes and don't want to lose the handling ability she has, but i'm definitely fitting the spacers as i want more clearance.

Will update with more info/news as i have it.

The prospect of the lift kit sounds very interesting; I for one would like to know how you get on. On a boring note; does anyone have an idea of the impact on insurance for this sort of modification?
