the mot man says my front to rear lines(abs) are shot....i have to agree with him think theres only rust holding them together.i have a kit but the flare tool is probley good for cracking various size nuts (walnunt big hole peanut small hole -silverline-) so im looking for a good flare tool and and hints you can give me.

Forget the crappy nut crackers, (I just chucked one in the bin that I was given 'cos the guy couldn't make flairs with it, so I had a go. I've made loads of brake pipes over the years with various tools and that piece of junk is the only one I've struggled with.) I have one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Franklin-To...qid=1406054581&sr=8-16&keywords=brake+flaring and it never fails to make perfect flairs. It is a bit of a one trick pony as it only does 3/16" single and double flairs.

I bought one similar to this .. Flare tool (first one on a search) and whilst it works well for the price (Mine cost a bit less) it soon loses clamp force, letting the pipes slip and not making good flares .. but a couple of blobs of weld, a bit of work fettling with a file and job's a feckin' great one!

Recently repaired a clutch pipe too, larger bore, and hasn't had any bother doing copper, CuNi or steel pipes ... For long term use, garages etc, I'd suggest a proper turret style flaring tool, but for one-offs or occasional use this has been excellent for me .. so far it's done numerous odd jobs, a complete Discovery and 90 brake pipe set and a number of uses on the lanes .. :)

i had my eye on the same tool but didnt want to buy another nut cracker,i dont even like nuts.as these pipes are from front to back wheres the best place to put a join in also could you confirm the flare type.

Don't put a joint in the pipe, run a whole new one from front to back, joint in pipes are a bad idea if you can avoid them. Double flairs are SAE and singles are DIN, well they were on my 90 anyway, singles are now SAE aswell thanks to new male fittings.

i agree i would rather not put joins in but i will be doing this on my own and the run is long and there would be a big risk of wrecking the line i just made.thanks for the advice i will get on with this at weekend

I bought a Sykes Pickavant Flaremaster a few years ago, it was expensive but is bloody good. All the tools to cut, bend and tidy the pipe are included in the kit and it can easily be used under the vehicle. It also came with the formers to do the larger 6mm clutch pipe.
