Thank you very much for the suggestion....I think I'll try replacing that first and have a general look when it's off....if it is the original alternator and as it's done 200k+ it seems likely it's got to its best before date...

I have a problem with a flat battery when the Disco 300tdi is left overnight....I got a friend to put a meter on the battery when it was ticking over and it was showing as 16-17 volts going in so I think the alternator is not as it should be and shorting out when the engine is stopped...

Where does the wiring for the cig lighter supposed to come from...? I have the center consol off to mess with the handbrake lever which is kaput and expected there to be 2 wires attached to the cig lighter ...there wasn't and I couldn't see 2 wires ...there is a connector near the lever base as...

I paid £450 for my '97 Disco BUT the engine needed sorting skimmed the block and the head ....chassis was sound...I think my engines bits were £270 ish,skimming £250 and I had to help the mechanic at his workshop for a few days labouring to help pay for his time, he's a neighbor...it is my first...

Happened to me..it would run for a while then stop...the fuel gauge was showing as just under a quarter of a tank.... I limped to the nearest garage...seems it was out of fuel as the gauge was stuck....

Start it up from time to time or the battery might go flat with the alarm...or disconnect it....

I did my leaky sunroof but haven't attempted the lights around the heater controls...I could do with some braille switches....

I would have thought that their get out clause would be...was it badly fitted by a non-landrover mechanic that caused the malfunction.... that's how it could take a long time and a hard fight to get your replacement or money back......proving it was the part at fault and not the fitting may be...

I couldn't live with myself if I did that...imagine how I would feel if I did that and your engine blew up.......;)

Welcome... I knew someone that did that ...painted the warning lights black so they wouldn't show up...very naughty and not nice...

I spotted 10lt "boxes" of sun flower oil in Tesco's today for £12...... anyone know of anything/anywhere cheaper? From what I read it's ok for me to throw in say 20lt to my tank that has about just over a quarter tank of diesel.....just checking...:)

We bought a N reg Disco ES 300TDi that had this problem..it ran on it's own oil..knackered the pistons... you can't stall an automatic so it boiled itself...we took it apart skimmed the head put in new pistons and it still doesn't run as it should now looking for another block....the old pistons...
