Hi there folks ,

first off i must say i live in Portugal not the UK

OK...i have a H reg 1991 disco 200 2.5 tdi ,

i recently had to have the `light switch / indicator stalk` replaced , my mechanic got the replacement from the local Land Rover dealership,
Now 2 months later it has broken ,( plastic bits snapped inside ).
when my mechanic contacted the dealership they said that " Electrical parts are not guaranteed ."
Now this is not a Portugal thing as anything you buy is normally covered by a 2 year guarantee......  So is this a Land rover thing ????:confused:

many thanks

steve

i suppose it's not a LR thing, it's a latin LR thing... i was in the same situ some time ago but a quite expensive bit was involved(an IDM fisebox) ... i've got a refund after a long juridical struggle... meanwhile i was obliged to buy a good one to be able to ride my landy...as u see i'm in a latin country too... i dont think that could happen in the Land of Albion... or am i wrong:eek:

Is Portugal in the EU, if so are you not covered by the general distance selling regs.

Should be able to check on the interweb. I think the dealership are trying to pull your proverbial...:D

Whack 'em with regs...

Hi Steve,
I live in Spain, in the Canary Island, and after a very similar issue I was told that unless I can proove the part had factory fault or defect, I could'nt claim anything. Specialy not guaranteed if it wasn't replaced by the LR dealer. The dealer is responsible only if they do the job.... otherwise no possible claim

Believe me, Spain, Portugal, Romania, ...etc. EU countryes have the same law on the field of warranties.... but u dont have to rely on what the guilty part says ... ask a lawyer... as i said, i won, after 7 months of struggle.... it's not worth for cheap investments.... unless u are a stubborn hun madman like me:fighting2: ... or Attila

does that mean that even though it is a genuine LR part , i am still not covered ??

the reason i ask is ...i was told by Someone at LR customer services that all their genuine parts are under warranty.

Thanks for all the replies....

steve

I would have thought that their get out clause would be...was it badly fitted by a non-landrover mechanic that caused the malfunction.... that's how it could take a long time and a hard fight to get your replacement or money back......proving it was the part at fault and not the fitting may be difficult...

Ok , i have now been told that NO electrical parts are guaranteed by Land Rover unless they are fitted by a Land Rover mech at an official LR garage.

:-( :mad::(:confused::mad:

i will just have to forget about the € 90 Euro that it cost ( only 2 months a go ) !!!!!
