The glow plug light on my TD4 doesn't come on when I turn on the ignition, even when the engine is stone cold. Its also difficult to start sometimes I've connected up my black box and can get the light to turn on, so its not the lamp. I can also switch the relay with the black box but the lamp...

To answer my own questions in case anybody searches this later on... Yes, you do need to lower the subframe. Its easy with a trolley jack and just undo the the four bolts. Drive shaft needs removed, half shafts stay, as do suspension links. Exhaust must be disconnected at the three bolt...

    TD4 Water Pump

The water pump on my TD4 has started leaking and sounds like a bag of spanners clattering about. I've been looking at changing it out and have consulted both Haynes and Rave. Both manuals tell you to remove the camshaft cover. Has anybody tackled this before? Do you need to remove the...

    VCU Bearing Bolts

I was trying to drop off the propshaft on my TD4 last night and came up against a problem. The bolts holding the VDU bearings to the underside of the cab are seized solid. Even using an impact hex socket, they just rounded. Managed to get two out (one in each) with a twist grip socket before...

    Suspension Worries

For some reason recently driving my Freelander has been more like steering an ocean liner. When turning corners, the outside wheels feel like they are going to buckle underneath. This happenes even at slow speed (incase somebody comments on my enthusiastic driving style). I suspect the...

    Wheel Bearing Help

From memory it's one long 12 mm bolt. Have you tried jacking the hub up about an inch or so and then letting it down slowly while trying to turn the bolt. You may find that it will move when you have taken the load off it.

    Freelander 1 Driveshaft nut torque

I bought a Sealey Torque multiplier and used my existing torque wrench. It mutiplies the torque so you only need to set your wrench to 121 Nm. Try here: Torque Multiplier 1/2”Sq Drive | The Tool Den Should also say that it makes it a lot easier to undo it as well.
