For some reason recently driving my Freelander has been more like steering an ocean liner. When turning corners, the outside wheels feel like they are going to buckle underneath. This happenes even at slow speed (incase somebody comments on my enthusiastic driving style).

I suspect the springs or shocks have been damaged due to the number of pot holes that have been around recently.

Has anybody else come across this? What was necessary to rectify it?

The cost of new shocks and springs on all 4 corners seems rather high.
 
Take your wheels off and check the condition of the anti roll bar linkages. One or two may be bent. Also check the condition of your anti roll bar bushes, and the anti roll bar itself.

It's cheaper to check and try these than swapping your suspension willy nilly.
 
and to test ya shocks get out n rock the mota.If its sways and rocks for more then 2 bounces then time for new shocks
 
Check your transmission isn't winding up. If it is then it will cause all sorts of odd feeling handling, particularly at low speeds. Remove the propshaft & VCU then test it again.

The Freelander is meant to feel like an ocean liner, especially round corners. My dad borrowed my car today (He has a BMW 325) and said he said he forgot that he had to slow right down for tight corners, and said that he ended up on the other side of the road!

Out of interest, is the Disco 1 much worse in this respect?

Meant to feel like an ocean liner? Oh yeah i read that in the brochure :rolleyes:

Seriously, i chuck mine about in and out of the corners like no tomorrow. It's not meant to be like that at all. The freelander is one of the best 4X4's in its class when it comes to road handling. I've even got all terrains on. Granted i can't keep up with an Impreza in the corners, but i can keep up with a lot of other cars.

If you have hit a few pot holes you might have knocked your tracking out, it would have to be a long way out to cause real handling problems but could happen. I had a lift kit fitted a couple of days ago & I know my tracking is miles out, it just wants to go straight on at corners, taking it for a 4 wheel alignment this afternoon.

Hmm, guess mine can't be right then. Wouldn't know for sure as I've only ever driven one Freelander. I have to slow right down when cornering compared to my old car otherwise there's excessive body roll.

The back end will step out on mine before i could say there's anything near excessive body roll. In fact yours should handle better as you've got lower profile tyres and have a little less distance from the ground.
