would you adam an eve it

There is, it is called the X Shaft and is made by X Eng Some swear by it, others say it doesn't work very well. When my front shaft snapped there is no way that tool would have removed the stub left in the diff or all the bits of metal scattered around inside the casing. I had to strip...

    defender vent seals

No. You said: and I gave a lot more information including part numbers, the part number ranges and what (as far as I know) the differences are and why someone would/should fit a certain type to their vehicle. Just thought it might help the OP and others who were looking for information on this...

    defender vent seals

I was under the impression that there are two types. The older rubber version (MUC4299) that is glued to the bulkhead and a newer foam one that is self adhesive and sticks to the vent (JAE000030). "While both will fit late or early models, the rubber one fits better/looks better on the older...

    defender with no drive

If it is the front shaft. I have heard that it is more likely to be the off side one as it is shorter and has less flex. That was certainly the one that snapped on mine, but are they different lengths?

Ball park price for CV joint replacement?

I would also highly recommend doing it yourself. I snapped a halfshaft within 3 months of picking up my One Ten :( and had to remove it, along with the diff (which I found out is pretty heavy when you are lying on your back trying to remove it only inches from your face - ouch), and all the...

    Sand ladder bracket

My last rack (Safety Devices) had the brackets built in but I have since sold it and bought a bog standard one so am also looking for brackets. I have emailed RCV - Land Rover service and repairs specialist and will give you a shout when I get a reply.

    Immobiliser, Alarm or both

I have a Toad 606i alarm and immobiliser. NFU give me a 10% discount and it seems to work well. Has all sorts of functions for zones and types of detection. Can also integrate into remote central locking using the same plip. mad

    axle removal and swap

Excellent thread with nice big easy to see pictures and description. If only the Haynes manual was printed like this I wouldn't spend half my life looking at tiny B&W pictures wondering what the hell it is meant to be. Thanks for doing this for the benefit of others. mad

    Questions, questions, questions!

I wouldn't bother. Wipe it all clean so that you can see where the oil is coming from and then work from there. I have had mine for less than 3 months and had bought all the oils/filters/etc for a complete service but was hesitant to make a start as it is all new to me and I was unsure (silly...

M25 - Digital speed cameras go live!

I have a great trick to beat Speed Cameras and it works very well for everyone. Stick to the limit. No tricks, no detectors, no GPS maps with locations marked, no heavy braking when I see one. Just pootle along at or below the limit and job done.

    Is a Snorkel a 'Modification'

Short answer: yes. Long answer: anything that isn't factory fit is a modification and thus should be declared to the insurance company. I have declared my winch, snorkel, roof rack, steering guard etc etc. NFU (who are my insurer) are more than happy with everything I have added and don't seem...

    DOT3 or DOT4?

I should have made my post clearer, sorry. I meant any new fresh fluid in the bottle that I hadn't needed. In the past I would have got rid of it as it doesn't keep once opened. But now I will use it in the clutch.

    DOT3 or DOT4?

I hadn't thought of that. Good idea. I always threw (take to local recycling plant) away any brake fluid left over after a bleed but will keep it now for the clutch.

    Fitting a winch!

Hijacking the thread but keeping it on topic.... What about wiring a winch in? Should I run normal battery & earth sized cable all the way to the winch direct from the battery, or would a thinner cable suffice? thanks, mad
