Questions, questions, questions!

OK, forgive me if this is the wrong way about doing this!

I've finally got my first Lanyd, and it is an absolute joy!! I've only had it 12 hours, but I love it.

Now, it does have a few 'niggles' which i'd like to sort. I figured the easiest way would be to list all the questions in one topic, rather than fill the forum with loads of posts.

Pics etc to follow once I get home from work :-D

1. The bottom needs waxoyling, where is the best place to get this and how much would I need?

2. The handbrake is a bit loose, how do I adjust it?

3. There is what looks like a balljoint on the front steering rod (?) which is worn, are these easy to replace and what is the proper name!?

Hi sam, How is sunny b'mouth? im an ex Boscombe resident myself,
Waxoyl is available from halfrauds and i believe (thanks to pikey) that one of the best ways to apply this is with one of those pump garden sprayer things on a patch of someone elses ground that they dont really care about.
Handbrakes on landys aint graet things at the best of times but there is a squre block on the back of the handbrake backplate which you can turn which spreads the shoes on the inside of the drum and you can also adjust up the cable on the linkage but dont overdo it. Its not unusual for your lever to point straight up when applied. If your mechomically minded take the rear prop off and the drum and take a look inside to see it aint full of crap and that the mechanism works properly

3. A piece of ****, make sure you get the right one, I can't remember whether that one's right or left hand thread. Set the tracking up with a tape measure then get it checked at a garage for piece of mind.

Does the waxoyl go on easy? How much should I buy for the entire thing?

Id buy 2x 5 litre tins then anythin you dont use you will use in later when you recoat it

I've also noticed a very small leak in the middle of the rear axle. It was parked at work for 9 hours yesterday, and when I left it had left 4 drip marks.

Is this likely to just be a seal / gasket to replace? Common / easy prob to fix or a nasty and expensive one?!

Depends, it could be the casing rotting out round the bottom on the rear side or it could be a flange seal where the prop goes on or t could be the drain plug on the bottom or the filling plug on the back.

Have indeed, and so true!

Would a few drips now and then be anythign to worry about? Might just book it into brooklyns for a quick once over, replace filters and oils etc.

Then again I could do it all at the weekend if I can get the parts in time and know exactly which bits to order! I'm ok with engines, but gearboxes, diff's and brakes etc I get confused with!!

I wouldn't bother. Wipe it all clean so that you can see where the oil is coming from and then work from there.

I have had mine for less than 3 months and had bought all the oils/filters/etc for a complete service but was hesitant to make a start as it is all new to me and I was unsure (silly really as I had only just changed the cambelt on my Clio so no stranger to cars).

So there I was plucking up the courage to undo a few drain plugs and I went and snapped a front halfshaft.

One week later I looked back and wondered why I was so hesitant to change the diff oil. Looking on the bright side, at least it snapped before the oil change. Would have been a waste of oil otherwise.

i'm hesitant too tbh. Like you, i know a bit, I can deal with engines ok but it's everything else!

Might order some bits from paddocks tomorrow and do the simple stuff at the weekend. Then it just needs some basic tidying up, bit of hammerite on the bumpers etc. I'd like to bring the dull paint back to life too, but not sure if i'll be able to.

Another job is to find a heated rear screen. Mine looks like it has recently been replaced with a cheap alternative which is not heated, and this morning the mist on the screen was a pain in the arse! I know the circuit to the heated screen works, so Ijust need to actually find one.

Lots to do,should keep me cocupied - the missus won't be happy mind!

basic maintenance on the landy is a piece of ****
You need
1. Half inch ratchet for the drian plugs
2. Adjustin spanner for gearbox fill plug on the side and for the drain plug on the bottom
3. EP90 for font, rear diffs and transfer box
4. pair of long nose pliers to remove filter from gear box (assuming its lt77s box, reverse being away from you and forward) then clean in a bit of petrol
5. MT 75 oil for refillin gearbox
