offroadin today at slab common.great day and all was good..there was one particular tree root and steep hill that kept beating us.so stupid me thought i will give it another go 3/4 over the top nearly made it and then snap rear half shaft went as i had it in diff lock didnt notice as 1st reversed down had another go and then another loud snap and the front feckers went..so towed out to the main road and the nice rac man took me the 57 miles home..

i have 2 spare rears and just gotta get the fronts
qs is is there a tool for removing the broken part or is it a case of making a pole with some sort of magnet on it?
how have you guys done it?

well just been out, removed rear halfshafts and both are fine..the diff i only put on thurs nite along with new props and ujs..surely both diffs cant have gone,or maybe rear diff front half shafts?..if you put it in difflock and any gear you can look underneath and press the throttle and the props turn and so does the flange on both diffs,so is it likely to be both diffs?

any ideas

yep more likely to be both diffs if you were trying to get up over a root. as the spinning wheel hits the ground and stops, the inertia built up will generally mash your diff! probably the starwleels or pins have gone.

Hi Wiltshire,
I think you're trying to set some kind of record here for the maximum amount of hardware busted and replaced in a month... :smash:

Go for it! You know that pedal on the right... has more than two positions :D

There is, it is called the X Shaft and is made by X Eng

Some swear by it, others say it doesn't work very well.

When my front shaft snapped there is no way that tool would have removed the stub left in the diff or all the bits of metal scattered around inside the casing. I had to strip everything and remove the diff.

I still remember lying on my back lifting the diff out and as it came off the bolts, suddenly finding out how heavy it is... with my face.

took back diff out tonight and its the pin thru the ctr of the diff snapped in half..not too bad i thought i will replace it,but it had taken a couple of teeth of the main cog..so i replaced the diff

couple of mates have suggested possibly cv on the front so we will look at that first

would be nice to have even a couple of weeks go by without bustin summit

'ere mate, you bought a LR. did no one warn you that you had automatically signed up for a lifetime o suffering, grief, misery, for a short amount of pleasure?

I spent half of the week before last telling everyone never to buy a LR. Now i've fixed it again ill be telling them the opposite again :)
