Why are wading kits soooo expensive when wading kit appears to be retail speak for a few connectors and a few meters of tubing...
Surely some tube from eBay of suitable diameter to push over the existing breathers and lead up to the top of the windscreen would work just fine?
What components have breathers? Front and rear axles, transfer box, auto box... Anything else?

only going from memory but have a nosey at the ns rocker, on the top, at the back.

getting old , might be wrong

(the 3.5 have the breathers, the 3.9 has pipe that goes somewhere apparently)

Wading kits are expensive because the alternative is even more expensive. I some how got suckered into buying a genuine land rover pack. Have done both axles and boxes. Just need to extend the fuel tank breather now which I will do this weekend.

As with anything else you can always source a cheaper way of doing things if you have time to look around.

Am i missing something here? I just paid £15 for my breather kit, have done all breathers ending at my snorkel via a 5 way connector type thing in the engine bay plus my 2 wading plugs...

No, Perhaps I am, the kits I've seen were £50+ where did you get yours from?

that sounds about right. probbaly cheaper to source and buy ya own but is it worth the arse ache?

Well I had a look at the above link (breathers r us) and the guys were very helpful and answered all my questions and I got it for under £20. So to answer my own thread, why are kits so expensive? Well if you look round( or get shown by helpful peeps) they aren't.

I understand about extending ALL the breathers up to roofline and the aquarium shop has probably got it all cheaper (but a bit flimsy?). Are there also DRAIN holes to seal, in the bellhousing, cam belt cover etc. ???

Just out of interest, with all these breathers going up to roof level, do you drive in trunks?

How much water comes in? I realise it depends how deep you go and for how long but a rough guestimate works for me.

If your existing breather is blocked then your diff's will suck in water and you haven't got to be very deep for that to happen. So its worth checking your breathers even if not extending them.

With regard to water coming in, depends on door seals and any rusty holes.
If your moving not too much comes in (at least in my case). If you stop or worse get stuck, it fills like a bucket
