I read somewhere that only a special kind of cooling fluid can only be used? Is this true.

So what kind fluid should I use?

I now have the blue one in it.

thanks
Chris

If you are changing from blue Antifreeze (Ethyl Glycol - I think) to the pink stuff (Organic Additive Technology - OAT) then make sure you fully drain and flush the old stuff out first.

Never mix the two in the same system.

The blue stuff will do the job. In fact, I've just 'fitted' it in my 1.8 K series, along with a new rad and remote thermostat kit.

The essential differences are that the pink stuff has a longer life and certain other benefits - such as a UV fluorescent additive, which assists when tracing leaks.

My system has (by the looks of it) always had blue antifreeze in, so there seemed no point in changing.

Oh, and the pink stuf costs more!

in a Freelander - only use OAT - that is what it is designed for and its cooling characteristics are essential on the K series, as is the anti-corrosion requirements.
there is also a guide in the LZ FAQs section, if you look.
Do NOT mix the two types.

Thanks, than I will change it to the red type fluid. Think that they changed to blue with the former hg change which the last owner did ) only problem I have is that I have no idea if they repleced it with the new multi layer one...'

Should I just flush the old one out with water a couple of times

Ideally to do a full flush you should remove the thermostat (but put housing back) and put a hose pipe in the inlet port with both top and bottom hoses removed.

Same with rad, just don't burst your rad with a powerful hosepipe.

If you don't do this you risk traces of the blue being stuck at places in the engine.
