Hello,

Does any body have any tips on how to 'seat' the valve guide oil seals back around the securing lip that holds them down on the cylinder head please? It's a 200tdi, burning lots of oil on start up and I can see both seals have worked their way up the valve stems on both the inlet and exhaust valves of number one cylinder. I can't seem to pop them back on properly with a screwdriver and I refuse to remove the head to sort his problem!

Thanks,

im not sure if you can still get them but you used to be able to get a tool to remove the valve springs on a ford cvh without removing the head. As the pistons are flat on a 200tdi maybe you could adapt one of them or try and make one. What you would need to do is make sure the piston is at the top of its stroke make a plate to fit over the spring with a hole in the middle and fine some way of clamping it down to remove the collets and spring

I once used compressed air to hold the valves closed while changing valve springs on a petrol engine.
An adapter was screwed into the spark plug (glow plug in your case) hole and the compressor was set at about 90psi.
So long as the cylinder is at the bottom of its stroke and your valve seats are good then you can remove the collets and do what you need to do.
